Call of Duty going to a 3 year cycle?

[/quote]You really think so? I actually thought the campaign's weren't that bad. I mean yes they could have used some improvement, but they weren't bad. Worth playing.

 

I could do without the campaigns, but zombs needs to be there. The campaigns and single player in general is so 1990s IMHO. Back on Sega and PSI there were a ton of great single player campaigns MoH, etc, but todays gaming world, MP is king.

 

There is room for both Uneasy, you just need to feel the love!!

 

Yeah, I guess Im just a bit burnt on the single player stuff, because thats all we had back in the day and Ive had my fill with it. MP is the Next Gen gaming. Maybe make it like W@W and have Co-Op campaigns, I think 4 different players could do it at once,
thats a bit better I guess. Zombs is gonna be epic Next Gen too!

 

Most definitely have co-op campaigns.

 

COD is MP only, the story line is child's play fluff.

GTAV has a story line, you can do Ghost in one sit down, GTAV wears you out, the detailed story line and switching around wears you out in every way.

They need to re skin GTAV for war

 

I get a few days of fun out of the campaign...but if scrapping that meant they would add something to MP I would be down. But I doubt that would be the case. They would get rid of SP and do nothing extra with MP. I would love to see a real co-op campaign.
Maybe they should build the next story mode around co-op.

 

That is certainly one opinion. I agree the story line in ghosts was weak but to make COD MP only would be a shame.

I'd love to see this too.... would be nice to have - I'd like them to make it far more difficult too.

Agreed, which is what makes 'MP-only Call of Duty' a very dangerous idea. At the moment they strive to put more features into the game to stand out. If they decided they could get away with making Call of Duty MP only they would not charge any less and a
lot of the other developers, especially big ones like Ubisoft and Capcom, would switch to the same model so quickly it wouldn't even be funny. We would almost instantly be looking at games everywhere losing content.

To support such an idea into becoming reality is just about the best way you could shaft yourself as a gamer. Developers have the power, so we need to hold them to a standard, not let them do whatever they want. We already know what they want and we shouldn't
be so stupid as to think that they want what's good for us.

Its true that game prices have remained fairly static for several years and I hope they remain so, dev's are making margin from rehashing maps and whilst there is a cost in rehashing a map (e.g Firing range to Studio), it is smaller than building a new map
from scratch.

Dev's are already charging more for DLC than 2-3 years ago for very little difference - and I expect that DLC prices will continue to increase and whilst this may be unwelcome, it is preferable to the game base price increasing. On top of this, too many
people buy into the season pass con. Elite anyone - what a clusterf*** that was.

Sure this saves a small amount of money but every year, there are significant numbers complaining about DLC content and quality. It may cost me $10 more IF I buy all the DLC but I prefer to have that choice.

If you buy the Hardened editions, or the season pass, you have no recourse if the DLC is below par or broken under the terms of XBL marketplace (There are no refunds blah blah blah).

To move to MP only would likely encourage other dev's to change their business models too - to cite an example - online pass for EA games (free when purchasing a game new, but a $10 fee if you buy second hand and want to play online) and then MS trying to
implement it with X1 (Clearly the back lash from the communities and Sony's VERY clever response led them to back track). I completely agree with your suggestion that do it for COD, BF // A N Other will do the same.

On the surface, a MP only shooter may seem attractive, but the underlying impacts would be significant and costly in both financial and content terms.

 

Ill touch on a few points here. Actually CoD is CoD and it isnt going to change and we know this. What I would rather is a company (CoD companies stick to CoD) make a MP only FPS, but thats just my opinion. Now, I think Titanfall is doing something different.
I may be wrong but I think they have combined "campaign" and MP in some type of way. Im not sure how, but something like maybe you have to play and advance through the campaign to a certain area to "unlock" that map for MP, or something like that. I did watch
a TF vid a while back and it explained a bit, but Ive forgotten exactly what it said. Ill try to find it.

 

EDIT---There are some great points also for a MP only game. A new game would not have to come out every year. Things could be added through the game like prestiges, maps, weapons, any tweeking for things, characters/prestiges, etc. If you "basically" think
about it, thats all CoD has been for the last ten years. "Basically" nothing is really different. Most of the "changes" probably could have been done via updates and such. Espeecially if a new Next Gen engine or whatever comes along. I wonder what prestige
some of the characters would be if you used the same guy for 10 years, LOL.

Kinda, but not just one world. It would be different maps, like we have now and constant tweeking, updating, security for hacks, adding maps, etc, but you would NOT need a new disc every year. They could add game modes etc too all through updates. Which
is "basically" what CoD has been anyways.

 

I get what you are saying, and if done right it could work but I am not sure I would sign up to it..... it would just be used as a cash cow... but then I am getting quite cynical in my old age.

The other thing that would make it less likely on console would be new generation hardware... They would have to update it for the new coding and would likely loose a lot of revenue from those that dont switch over either immediately or ever.

It could work on PC though....
