Calibrating TV, can no longer see "closed eye" when setting brightness. HDMI black levels...

This has only recently started with my Series X, which is in Alpha skip ahead and my tv is a Samsung un49u7000...

i am not sure if it's an xbox update that started the issue but the closed eye does not appear, which it suggests "make sure hdmi black levels match"... ive checked every setting on my tv which hasnt changed and cannot figured out why this happened or how to fix it.

would leaving insider program on my series x probably fix this? yesterday's update didnt change anything. i think it started befoee last weekend

    Black level

That is why im trying to figure out black level because when it tells me to turn the brightness all the way up and then turn it down so you dont see the closed eye but you can still see the open eye but when i turn the brightness all the way up the closed
eye does not show up and i dont know why do you know why?

the worst looking game of 2012

I disagree with most here. I hate the graphics. I tried the bf demo a while back and had to stop playing it just because of the graphics. BO2 is quite similar. I hope I can find some adjustments on the tv itself that tame it a bit. ...... and I am running
    hdmi.

I do a lot of graphics work, and the basic rule of thumb for enhancing detail is if you increase brightness, you decrease contrast, or if you increase contrast you decrease brightmess. The only adjustment seems to increase contrast as it increases brightness,
and vise versa. This results in either a display that is too dark, or a display where all the darks run togethjer and all the whites run together.

    [/quote]

It is correct that contrast and brightness have a direct effect on each other , contrast affecting the white level and brightness effecting the black. Are you saying that increasing the ingame brightness increases the contrast also , it cant , if you increase
the black level the white level will go down it has too. I think the brightness ingame is also affecting the colour saturation (gamma) and that is what your experiencing. Is your tv/monitor properly calibrated? The brightness setting ingame is always hit and
miss and never alters just the black level theres always something else going on. Is you tv set to normal levels? i mean correctly calibrated and colour temperature set to normal? Im only asking because i think the game looks pretty good imo , the lighting
in particular and the texture on rocks etc , both of these effects can be washed out by poor calibration

put your brightness all up for the best graphics

does the full game have a pic to calibrate with? I remember the beta brightness settings saying "adjust the brightness tii you can barely see the image" but there was NO image?!. The calibration screen for BC2 with the whites and blacks and having brightness
and contrast settings was fantastic! Does BF3 have a contrast setting?

    Black level

There is no "black level" option.

It is Brightness and Contrast that adjust it.

I suggest using the build in calibration chart in settings on your xbox.

Picture quality degredation, crushed blacks etc. with HDMI input

When I first got it I was thinking the same thing. Man the stupid xbox has a bad upscaler and picture quality was ugly.

My friend has Direct TV and was even worse. Then it hit me I have to calibrate my TV for RG Limited. Cable feeds are YCBCR 444 color space. I matched the xbox to 24 bit since that's what broadcast uses. (those with receivers can find out in the menu as they
display all the HDMI INFO from devices attached to it). I first ran my spears and munsil blue ray calibrator and compare them to the xbox calibration steps. My xbox settings where dead on with the spears blue ray calibrator. So happy to say the built in xbox
calibrator is actually pretty good. For those with crush blacks leave the xbox on RGB Limited and change your HDMI Black Level on the TV. On my Samsung TV I leave it on LOW and the rest I do with the brightness following the steps of the calibration. I much
rather them have a YCBCR setting instead of RGB Limited. Luckily on my HTPC I can use either one. Anyways now my TV looks perfect on the XBOX and so does my friends DIrect TV box too once we calibrated it again. Now to get my pause to work on my CIsco DVR
    box.
