    Had a 360 that had played for awhile. The drive board died on the disc reader, so I bought a used one from ebay.. Ive read all kinds of stuff about not being able to use a different drive without some sort of crazy key flashing because of something in
    the firmware, but also have read that updates will overwrite the firmware in the drive. So I thought, just connect the new drive, do an update since it hasn't been used in a very long time, and it will fix the problem. Seems like a simple assumption? Btw
    I transfered everything from this console to a different one, so Im not really out anything but a 2nd xbox.... Anyways, when I try to update the console I get the C000-003c message, and upon looking it up it says this console has been banned. WTH? I didn't
    do anything other than try to replace the drive. Is there no way to get this to work?

    C000-000E indicates the DVD drive is not responding. Have you modified or removed the DVD drive, or have you paid an unauthorized repair center to replace your DVD drive?

    Sorry to hear it. Unfortunately this sounds like there is an issue with the hard drive. It seems that it has died on you and you may need to replace the drive.

    I've had this problem before. After talking with the folks at xbox support, they determined that my xbox's disc drive had died, and needed to be replaced. In the end I had to replace the drive. I would advise contacting xbox support, at 1-800-4MY-XBOX, they
    can help you trouble shoot your drive, and determine if this truly is the case.
