  1. C++ Development on Xbox 1

I'm just starting to research development for Xbox One. I understand UWP is the preferred platform and that C++ is the preferred language for games. Visual Studio 2019 offers C++/CX and C++/WinRT projects for UWP. I know C++/WinRT supersedes C++/CX, but
VS2019 does not offer the DirectX 12 (or DirectX 11) templates. Does this mean the C++/CX templates are still the primary C++ implementation for Xbox development? Also, are there plans by Microsoft to change projections in the future?
I do not want to spend a ton of time on a language, extension, or library that will not be in use 2 or 3 months down the line. Also, does Xbox 1 development support C++17, or (as shown in some tables in msdn) does it still support C++11?

    Thanks,

    Matt Armshaw

    There's also the creator's program link. https://www.xbox.com/en-US/developers/creators-program

When you sign up for a dev account through the creator's program they provide you with all the necessary tools/documents/programs for creating a game on any level. According to the site, the necessary steps would be: create a dev account, create the product
in the dev center and implement Xbox Live, enable Dev Mode on your console for testing, and publish. The dev account activation requires a subscription fee, its a one time fee I believe.

According to the site you can write using C# or C++. And as far as I am aware the supported engines for developing are Constructs 2 & 3, Unity, GameMaker 2, Xenko, and MonoGame.

    I hope that helps?

What programming language is needed for using the Xbox SDK?

Hello, Dorkus. Thanks for reaching out. I'm Lucas, an Independent Advisor and a Microsoft user just like you. I'll be glad to help you out.

The Xbox system software (the Xbox OS) is written in C, C++ and C#. The Universal Windows Platform supports Windows app development using C++, C#, VB.NET, and XAML. So I'm pretty sure most Xbox games are also written on C++ or C#.

Feel free to ask back any questions, fellow developer.

    Gameshare

Sorry i phrased it weird. Or im understanding it weird. So account a, b and c are accounts that have been signed in on My xbox. So xbox 1 is mine. Main account on xbox 1 is Account A.

account c is on its own xbox. So xbox 2. On xbox 2, account a and account C are accounts that have been signed in on. So these accounts A and C are gamesharing. Main account on xbox 2 is Accounr C

Account B on xbox 1 has not set xbox 1 as its home xbox. So if im following it right, if account B purchases a game on xbox 1, account C from xbox 2 wont receive access?

Game pass on my or my sons account?

Thanks Stuart. Although I'm very familiar with MS products (and a C# developer) the options for Xbox are quite baffling at first.
