just asking but what makes it so that we can’t use our Xbox vouchers to buy gold! We get Xbox vouchers for Christmas and birthday only to find out that we can’t use them to but gold! It’s pathetic. If we have credit on our account we should be able to use
it to buy gold. Get your act together Microsoft.

Do i need xbox live

You will not need gold to buy games (but you will need an xbox live id/gamertag) thats a given, same for iplayer (assuming it comes to xbox one)

As for renting movies not sure ive always had gold when ive done it

you can actually use them to purchase a xbox live digital code at microsoftstore.com and during the checkout process it will give you the option to use the account currency.

"Xbox Live Gold" card is for buying the subscription for Xbox Live Gold, which your son will already have as he's able to play Fortnite online.

Xbox and Xbox Live cards should be same, but to be sure just buy the Xbox Gift card. That will let him buy the V-bucks.
