Buying External Drive today...any recommendations?

Hard drive is officially full. Do any of my fellow gamers have a recommended external hard drive I should get.

Is this external drive big enough?

FYI, for anyone curious about buying an external SSD drive a 250GB will work.

 

Where Has All The HD Space Gone?

Nah,you can't swap hard drives on the One so buying an external hard drive is the only option at the moment.

 

I have a Toshiba Stor.e basics USB 3.0 1TB external hard drive. It's of the 2.5" variety which means it does not require an extra power source, it is powered from the console via the rear USB port.

It doesn't make a sound and it is very quick. Been playing most of my games off it now for about 2 months. Highly recommended. You can also get the same HDD in 2TB.

 

I wanted a External HDD with it's own power supply, I went with a WD My Book 3TB drive, works perfect!

 

I have the same exact one as Obsessive Power.

 

I've had great luck with Seagate or WD external hard drives, make sure there USB 3.0 (which all the new ones are) and at least 1TB

 

I picked up a 3tb Buffalo hard drive, has its own power supply, very quite, I'm very happy with it so far.

 

Buy one that has most memory. I planing on getting a 5TB one. So it last me a long time. if I used under 500GB per year I onwed the one. I have a good over ten years of storage.

 

I got WD Elements 2 TB about 2 weeks ago and it works flawlessly. Play a few games off both hard drives just to free up the space on my internal and they work like a charm. Nothing beats seeing "1.7TB Free" on your games and apps screen now

 

A big one, well as big as you can afford.

 

I would not recommend buying a HDD bigger then what you are going to fill in the next 2 years or so. It will be much more cost effective buying a HDD that simply provides storage for your needs within a 2 year limit.

The reason for this is pretty simple. HDD prices will be dropping in price dramatically over the next couple years to months. As Next Gen Games (and other Media) ever grows in scale of "now" until "then" the prices of storage per Terabyte will continue to drop.
A 4Tb HDD might look appealing now but if you are not going to make use of that storage until a 16Tb HDD is the price you paid for the 4Tb, you wasted money.

I've been pocking around for an External HDD and I think a 3Tb HDD will suit me fine until a few years from now when the 16Tb are about as cheap as what I would pay for a 3Tb HDD now. If you like wasting money, buy not on any of the above principles.

I bought a WD My Book 4TB drive. Everything workes like a charm. The transfer was easy. Now I don't have to delete games to make room for new games.
