Buying Disc and Digital Of Same Game Question

Hi, I need to clear up a couple questions regarding if you buy the retail disc version of a game install it and update then after buy the digital version of the game will you be able to play it right away with the digital license since already installed
on console? Also are you able to add the gold trial codes you receive when purchasing a game on top of your gold account subscription if already have prepaid time on it without resetting? If you can help with any of this it would be great to confirm the answer
to them. Thanks!

Will people stick with xbox 360?

Buying the game disc and installing on the HDD is better than buying digital copy. Plus it's cheaper.

 

Game disc trade for digital version

So thinking about it, hate having disc copies of games and having to bring them everywhere with the Xbox. So question is does a disc trade in for digital copy even exist? Would be nice to send the disc in and receive a digital download of the game. Don’t
like the idea of having to buy the game again if the disc is lost or wont read. And at the end of the day just easier to have digital download of games and not have to worry about disc. This was probably a stupid question but owell.

 

If you have a gold account the trial will not add time to it. I am a bit confused as to why you would purchase both a digital and a disc copy of a game so I will leave that question to another ambassador as I really can not answer that part.

So he doesn't have to re-download the game? Let say he rents disc A, installs it and buys digital copy - Avoids downloading a 30-50 GB file on a slow connection.

 

Or let's say you win a digital copy after you already bought a physical copy. I was wondering how that worked as well - do I have to uninstall and then re-download from the digital copy?

 

This would be a good question to figure out since I have gotten Need for Speed from Gamefly. I do wish to purchase the full digital copy and send the disc back to them and keep all my saves and not have to wait a day for it to download. Good question,
however I have no idea of the answer.

 

The system should still have your save stored. However since it is a digital bought after unsure if it will access the same save. It should since it is saved mainly by account but I cannot give you a definite. Also, like said before. Trials cannot be added
onto an existing membership. I still have like 15 days in trials cards laying about.

 

I think you can with the game. Game saves it dosen't matter it disc or digital versions of the game. You can uses the save in both version.

 

The main reason I am asking this is because eventually with majority of my games I would like to go digital. Right now I am still retail disc. With slower connections like Mystogan J said above this would help speed up the process by installing then buying
without having to download at this time also. If there are sales on digital later on much like with Xbox 360 games now I would buy the digital and get rid of some of the disc versions going forward. So really there are a few reason's I would do this. Might
have to use trial and error if remains unanswered.

 

I saw a post once that showed how much space the games actually take up on your HDD. If my memory serves me right, the size of the disc based games were different than the digital download of the same game. With that simple(probably wrong) logic I think
you will have to re-download it. I have no idea of course, just my guess.

 

Yeah you would have to redownload the game, as the disc based game would ask you to insert the disc. So the answer to your question is yes you would have to delete the installed game and then redownload the digital version if you wish.

Are you talking about the Xbox One or Xbox 360?

 

With a disc based game if the game needs to be updated it says you either need a disc or the license. If you try it without the disc when already installed.

 

As I understand it the process works thus:

Friend brings their game to your Xbox One, installs it and starts playing (with the game disc in the drive). Friend then leaves, taking game with them.

The game is fully installed to the console hard drive, but can not be played without the disc. When you attempt to load the game you are asked 'Do you own this game?' If the answer is 'yes' you must insert the game disc to continue.

If you don't have the disc, the on screen prompt will direct you to purchasing the digital copy. If you purchase the digital copy, your already installed game will be unlocked to play without a disc. This process is very quick, you do not need to download
the entire game from the marketplace.
