Buying an old XB360 hard drive, need help.

I have an old Xbox 360 core,
seen here, that was given to me by a friend. it still runs good but its currently stuck at 120GBs so I'd like to upgrade that.

Now I have got 2 questions:

1. What was the last HDD storage amount made for these models? some have told me it was 250GBs some have told me it was 320GBs.

2. Where can I still buy the external mounted hard drives
new still? I know the model is discontinued on the Microsoft Store but I'm wondering if there is some retailers that still have some in stock online that are certified by Microsoft. what I've looked up online shows that allot of people
are selling 3rd party knockoffs from China and used ones on Ebay.

Please help:Buying a new hard drive

So im thinking about buying a new hard drive and i dont know how to transfer my stuff from my old hard drive to the new one. i know i will need a transfer cable but need help with the transferring. Please help, Thanks

it is common knowledge that a hard drive is required to play the old generation games as ALL old gen xbox's had one. all I can say is sorry that you need one but just be careful in buying games that need them, you can always play it later on if you get
a hard drive.

For the original fat model, the largest official drive was 250GB - anything larger is a knock-off. You may be hard pressed to find new ones for this model but check around a bit and you may find one. There do seem to be a few 3rd party sellers on Amazon
which say they have new ones, but you may want to check their feedback or contact them to confirm that they are selling official drives before purchasing so you get the backwards compatibility as well.

Since both of you have helped me greatly, I come again to you asking for your sage advice.

It looks I will definitely need a new Xbox. I have found some decently priced Xbox 360 consoles online, but they come decently priced because they all have 4 GB hard drives, which creates a problem because I have a 500 GB hard drive. I'm pretty sure the
hard drive is not an issue with my old Xbox 360 (I took it out and attempted to power on the old Xbox 360 with the same results), so I definitely want to preserve the old hard drive memory. If I buy one of the Xbox 360 consoles with a 4 GB hard drive, do I
then need to purchase another 500 GB hard drive to format to the new console, then transfer data from the old hard drive to the new hard drive?

The transfer cable is for transferring game saves mainly. Once you recover your gamertag, you can redownload all the DLC so you don't need the cable for that.

You can use your old hard drive if you buy an Xbox that is the same as your old one. If you're buying a new Slim and the hard drive is from the older models, then the hard drive is not compatible.

So you will need your Console Serial Number from your old console to be able to do the DRM transfer on
www.xbox.com\drm and make sure to save all your info to a USB before selling the old console\Hard drive and delete your profile and saves on the old hard drive so the person who buys your console doesn't have access to
