buying a xbox game as a gift

Game pass cards are not gift cards. So no, you'll need an Xbox Gift card to buy in game items.

my son has an xbox & i was trying to buy him VC in NBA2K23- i bought a gift card & activated it to my acct instead if his- i know i can't transfer the $, but can i buy VC as a gift for him & it will load to his account? thank you !!!

If the product page does not have a "Buy as Gift" option, it can't be gifted.

It sounds like you chose to Buy instead of "Buy as a gift". That means the game is tied to your account and will not be sent as a code. In order to gift a game through Xbox, you have to choose "Buy as a gift" and it will ask you to enter an email address
and then it will email the code.

As far as I know you can only buy games as gifts. If you want to buy Gold, buy a physical card or a code from an online retailer.

Thanks for the answer. Xbox Live Gold can be bought as a gift but not now because of this problem. Why does Store never work correctly?(

I do not see any option to Buy as Gift for Xbox Live subscription. I'm not even sure you can gift anything else other than games.
