Buying a used XBOX One...Would you do it?

I've been reading some old threads and there was an interesting discussion about buying used consoles. Most of the objections were concerning not knowing if you are getting a banned system.

So, if banned systems are the big issue, I guess you don't buy one from CraigsList. I think the eBay buyer's protection program would take care of you if you bought a banned brick.

I'm on the fence with this one. I'd be really tempted to buy something special and unique like this one: Plants vs Zombies Garden Warfare Special Limited Edition XBOX One Console but it comes
at a cost.

But I'm not sure that there is enough price difference between used systems from eBay and buying a fresh machine off the shelf. I kind of like the though of having a full warranty on my machine as well as having the new console smell.

Your thoughts?

Buying a used xbox?

Alright, so i bought a used xbox 360 console bundle from gamestop with 6 games for a decent price. It is the old white xbox.

So my question is, when it gets here on tuesday, how will i know it will work? Does gamestop actually refurbish the console and check for any hazards?

Also if it does work, i plan on switching the hard drive from my elite. What else will i need to get my information on the used white xbox, and how.

The controller on that PvZ looks like it has cheap decals stuck on it. Are you sure this is even a legit MS-made limited edition Xbox?

But as for the main question, with the current deals & bundles you may as well get something brand-new with the factory warranty on it. I do buy refurbished electronics from time to time, but even then I make sure it comes with a warranty there, too.

Just my opinion.

 

I don't buy used consoles...I like the "new console smell" as well! Lol.

You are pretty safe with the One since there are no mods at the moment. You just have to hope that the console has been looked after well.

I wouldn't touch a second hand 360 with a bargepole.

 

I've bought at least 3-4 used 360's off eBay (mostly to use as Media Center extenders throughout my house) and only had a problem once. I returned that one without any hassle though.

I've taken a peek at the X1's available for auction just out of curiosity, but haven't seen many that look like much of a deal. If anything I'd get one of the new $350 bundles with a game.

 

I'd always rather pay some extra cash and have a brand new one. I guess I'm just a one owner kind of guy.

 

I've only ever bought 1 used console in my life and that was a PS3. I would buy it new if I were you.

If you're talking about "in general", the pricing I see on eBay for used consoles sans Kinect is too high given there's an Assasin's Creed bundle with two AC games for $350. The games alone are worth $90, making the console only $260.

I would never ever purchase a used console unless I was absolutely forced to because new ones are no longer available for pick-up at my local game shop

I would only consider one used if it was half the price of new, that way I could replace it if it fails within the new warranty period with another used one.

I hardly buy used games, let alone a used console. It just a case of "why did they return/sell this console.. what's wrong with it."

And a lot of the time a used console or game is not much cheaper then a brand new one.

 

That's not true at all in most cases. Most older games are going to be much cheaper new. The last couple of 360's I bought off eBay were the new Slim "e" models and I paid just over $100 for each one, while they would have been over $200 after tax if they
were new.

Some people just don't want something anymore, some people upgrade, and some people need the money. Whatever the reason, it's not usually a case of something being wrong with it.
