Button for syncing doesnt work

We recently got another xbox and we have 4 controllers. We've tried to press the button on the xbox (the first one) to sync it to one the controllers, but the xbox light isnt blikning like its supposed to. Also, the controller's syncing works so im assuming
it's just the xbox that's working. I've already tried to hard reset it but that didn't work either. Can someone help us out?

Can you tell me what model the xbox is? I’m assuming xbox one, but is it a one x or one s or something else?

On my model, the first button to the left is a disc drive

That's how you recover your gamer tag - if that doesnt work you may need to roll back you Xbox and re install the latest update

With the console off, press and hold the sync up button.

While holding the sync button press the power button to turn on the console

Continue to hold the sync button until the Console has booted up completely.

During the boot process the console should clear any failed updates, allowing you to use it normally.

we have the same problem with a newer xbox but when we push the sync button on the console it doesnt light up at all. doesnt spin and the power button doesnt light up either. has anyone had any luck yet?

First try a power cycle by turning off the console and unplug it from the wall. Let it sit for about 2 minutes and then turn it back on.
