Business Strategy for '16 holiday sales.

As everyone is excited about the new announcements made this week, there is one BIG problem that if left unchecked could seriously hurt Microsofts success this holiday. That problem is rooted in not giving and estimated price for the Scorpio.

Now before my responses get blown up, let me walk you thru this reasoning. First, lets brake down the buying groups we have. To my count I have 3 groups. There are the people who do not yet own a "next-gen" console, people who have had one for a while and
are considering either a second one for another room or just upgrading to a new one because the old one is own its way out, and then the people who wants the "latest and greatest". Now I know not everyone falls into these categories but I'm sure you can decipher
which group you most likely fit into.

Now the first group is mainly comprised of people not wanting to spend that much money on the "one" because of initial price tag. Possibly because you had just bought a new 360 and did not want to immediately upgrade and abandon it, or maybe you just didnt
like the price and wanted to wait till it dropped. Either way, you're thrifty, know the value of your hard earned dollars and are not going to be con'd into anything you dont want. So this group has two options, either continue being thrifty and get the reasonably
price "One S" or save and wait to get the "Scorpio". Most people in this group will probably go for option A.

Now the second group is a tough call. You already own an xbox and you love it! Just moving it between rooms is tedious (especially with headset and hard drives hooked up), and you're considering getting a second one. That, or your current console is acting
up from time to time and it makes you uneasy waiting for it to actually die. Either way, your in the market for one. The reason for getting the slim are obvious, bigger hard drive (potentially), no power brick, and altogether smaller and better console.
The "Scorpio", however, has many reason that makes it even better than an entire new platform. The same games, 4k, vr, as powerful as a $1000 and up pc. If you're going to spend $300 why not invest alittle more and be "future-proofed" as it were. The problem
is without knowing what the price tag is, you can not decide if its worth it or not. Good chance most will wait to find out before setting their hearts on either one. Let's say spring rolls around and you find out its ridiculously overpriced. One would say
"F that" and get the "One S" instead, months after the competitive season, and we all know how much sony fans love to say they are better because they sell more... using un objective numbers and statistics to back up their statement.

The third group doesnt really matter because they most certainly get the "Scorpio" regardless of price tag. Almost certainly however will they forgo the "One S" with only a year away till the 4k, vr induced mind-explosions they are so looking forward to.

Now I completely understand being apprehensive about price tags. Underestimate and you dissappoint when you can deliver. Over estimate and people either dont buy it because its so expensive, or worse jump ship entirely because theres is cheaper. History
has shown us being burned before by that. However, getting a strong standing at the beginning of this "same-gen/high end" scenario could put Microsoft as the forerunner for 4k/vr gaming. Giving a reasonable price tag early on may hurt intial profits a tad,
but not as much as it would it the console were to nose dive we put against the competition.

Altogether, releasing some kind of price range before the holidays this year is crucial if Microsoft expects the "One S" to preform as expected come christmas time. Consumers will be waiting to see if the "Scorpio" is even a feasible option before buying
a "One S".

Strategy Games

The simple and honest truth is that strategy games don't make money on consoles, ergo nobody makes them. At the end of the day developers are a business, and a business aims to make money and sadly you don't do that by making titles that won't sell to the
mass market. R.U.S.E got hammered in the sales, as has almost ever strategy title.

 

Holiday sale?

I bought coins today, 12-31-17 the Holiday sale said it was going until Jan 4th, so I purchased 2400 coins and I was charged FULL PRICE...some sale...NOT

 

I'm in the 3rd group. I will buy the Scorpio unless there are rumors that developers are not supporting it. I'm also getting an X1S for my son at Christmas.

 

i'm in the third group as well. not going to waste my money getting the X1S when the scorpio is just a little over a year away and I can get it for Christmas, and it will be able to play my x1 games as well, making it a hell of a deal to me

 

I am in the fourth group. I am going to buy an AMD R480 and play Xbox Anywhere.

 

I know a few people that need the latest and greatest so they'll buy an S regardless.

 

lol ahhhhh a member of the pc master race has chimed in....

 

Its not master race... i think all indication points the new scorpio will run an AmD r480 so I am just upgrading my pc to play some microsoft exclusive. I been waiting on the r480 else wouls of bought an nividia 1080.

 

I already have the Xbox one from release day. I'll just move it to another room and hopefully pick up the Scorpio on release.
