1992 called.. they want their tech back...

seriously... go digital.. discs (not disk, discs are round, disks are square) are being phased out and will be totally gone by the time this gen is over, if not sooner (my personal guess, 2018-2019)

  5. That would actually make the console bigger than what it is right now. Your console would be the size of a record player There's is no room at all for a disc changer. Just go all digital. I did and I absolutely love it even though my games have no trade-in
    value.

  7. There's no reason such a thing couldn't be done now.

PC gaming has been doing so for years after all. A unique key in the box lets you install from physical, gives you a digital copy, and you are quite free to throw the disc away afterwards if that is what you want.

It works for PC gaming. No reason that it shouldn't also work for consoles too.

there is a reason why it can't be done, people will scream bloody murder about how they won't be able to sell their games and it is anti-consumer, and then there will be flashbacks to when MS announced their original vision, people put on their blinders
as soon as they heard "DRM" and MS was crucified for it.

  9. I was just considering an outdated technology that would have function for many people if implemented in the design of the xbox one. - The key phrase to consider is "outdated technology".

CD changers were pretty popular back in the day, they were designed for a reason and that reason is still here as long as things use disks. - This begs the question, Why then,
regardless of the reason they were designed, did they decline in popularity? One answer that's very easy to think of has already been mentioned. Reliability. The less moving parts there are in any piece of equipment, the less likely it will be to require maintenance
and the less likely it will be to suffer from mechanical failure.

A CD changer is little more than a bunch of moving parts... that's its sole purpose, to move things around. As many people here have pointed out, the X1 has been designed to be
on and running for 10 years. TBH, if the X1 had come with a built in CD changer, I would have decided to go all digital. Seriously. I know, with 0 doubt that a CD changer wouldn't last the lifespan of the console without issues. I wouldn't want an X1 if it
had a CD changer... as much as I'd actually be able to use it and even enjoy having it, my console gets used constantly. A CD changer would never last its lifetime.

  10. just buy digital. also had people not complained about the DRM thing, you would have been able to not need the disc after install, that was the original plan.

Can the people who say 'Just buy digital' kindly shut up lol. Buying digitally is more expensive, I'd rather go for the cheaper hard copy. (And yes I have bought some digital games when they're on offer, but on launch physical copies are generally cheaper.

But the disc changer is just silly, it takes a few seconds to get up and put in a disc.

    Drunky..

The money you might save my buying 6 month old games out of a bargain bin for $14.00 or trading in a few games to get another one... has a MUCH lesser value, at least to me,than game sharing for half price and being able to to enjoy a game during its release
    window.

Sure you can save money by waiting for 6 years to buy the Iphone 6 but is it worth it when everyone else in on Iphone10?

and I am not even including the digital sales, EA access and plans like that.

Like someone posted, the number of people looking for this sort of tech might be too small to warrant it. I like the idea of it, since I only buy digital copies of games that are either on sale cheap, or "sure thing" franchises that I follow. Taking a
chance on day one copies of new IPs is always risky, as Destiny taught me.

  15. Not sure if you're being sarcastic or not, but if you are your sarcasm is appreciated. It's ridiculous that the disk is required every single time you want to play a game.
