    BUG REPORT: Xbox One controllers Bluetooth connection issues after firmware update.


    PROBLEM: Xbox one controllers updated to version 5.11.3118.0 no longer work with the on board Bluetooth adapter on PC running Windows 10.

    SOLUTION: Controllers are able to pair and function properly only using the Xbox USB Bluetooth adapter.

    Here's what I found:

    • Three Xbox one controllers updated via the Xbox One console. Firmware version 5.11.3118.0.

    • Upon completing the update, the Xbox controllers "connect" to Windows via Bluetooth but are not recognized by Xbox Accessories App. Controllers also are not recognized by various game launchers including, Xbox game pass, and Origin. Tested across multple PCs with the same results.

    • Controllers running 5.11.3118.0 can connect Android mobile phone, iPad, and Xbox console without issue.

    • PCs built-in bluetooth can connect to other devices without issue.

    • Xbox controllers running older firmware tested with PC, confirmed fully working wirelessly.

    • Controllers on 5.11.3118.0 are only able to work if connected to PC using the Xbox USB wireless adapter (6HN-0002).

    • Controllers running this firmware also work fine with PC using wired connection

    Hi Vinicius

    it's not a problem of the controller, it can be paired with the PC with no issue, unfortunately with the latest firmware is no more recognized as an Xbox controller when connectd using bluetooth

    In the joypad configuration panel when is wired connect it is reported as a "Controller (Xbox One For Windows)", when connected using bluetooth is reported as a generic "6-axis 16-buttons game pad with hat switch"

    With previous firmware version it was reported as "Controller (Xbox One For Windows)" for both (even when connected with bluetooth)

    It's a firmware bug

    Do you have an Xbox console as well? Did you update your controller via the Xbox console? The latest Xbox controller firmware update may affect Bluetooth connectivity and performance with some non-Xbox devices. If your controller is having Bluetooth-related issues after a firmware update, you can choose to revert your controller to an earlier firmware version to correct the problem.     Can't revert firmware on Xbox Wireless Controller 1914, firmware version 5.13.3143.0. Loss of PC bluetooth functionality

    Bluetooth flips between not recognizing the controller at all, and recognizing it but failing to connect. The above method doesn't work.

    As I mentioned in the original post, attempting to roll back the firmware gives a popup:

    "this controller is already up to date."

    Even though I did a firmware update.

    I promise you, this is a firmware issue. Something was broken in the latest update for 1914 model controllers. My brother has the exact same controller and bluetooth module and his works perfectly fine because he didn't update his firmware. My controller worked until I updated mine.

    If there's some way you can submit a bug report to the firmware dev team, please do so. On Windows I can't find a way to report this problem directly to Microsoft.
