BSOD when installing Game Pass games using Xbox App

I have been following a previous thread on this issue:

[Garminen - Created on March 11, 2022 - Gamepass pc games installation causing BSOD]

    https://answers.microsoft.com/en-us...d/ee663e1a-821f-4314-a9ab-221dab737019?page=6

Despite the issue not being resolved, the thread has been locked without any further updates? Why is this?

I have Avira antivirus, I have attempted disabling real-time protection, I have uninstalled Patriot RGB and followed all of the other bits of advice given in the previous thread.

On March 22, 2022 - Microsoft Employee XBF-JoannaDark replied to the above thread stating to update Gaming Services but the update will still not work for Avira users. Since then there has been no new updates or further information. What are those with Avira supposed to do to be able to use Game Pass?

Furthermore, why has an update that has the ability to damage peoples PC's not been rolled back to the previous version?

Are there any timescales for when this issue will be fixed for Avira users?

Locking threads and hiding the issue does not magically just make it go away, no matter how many times you claim it has been 'fixed'. And before asked, I have already submitted an error using the Xbox App - for all the good that has done...

    :)

xbox game pass for pc causing BSOD

Same issue here, it started when using Norton to scan Xbox Game Pass folders would cause a BSOD, now just launching some Game Pass games will cause BSODs.

BSOD when installing Game Pass games using Xbox App

    Hello SCOx Stuay,

I wanted to update this thread regarding many users still experiencing BSOD issues when attempting to install or play a game via PC Game Pass. Another update went out late Friday and is slowly making its way through. Please make sure that you check the Windows Store, and when you update the Xbox app and Gaming services, you should be on 3.63.22003.0 Gaming Services. After this update, please submit a bug report if you are still experiencing BSOD issues. I will post the steps below.

How to check Gaming services version Xbox App

    • Open the Xbox app
    • Click on your Profile and then click settings
    • Then click on About, and under Versions, you should see Gaming Services version 3.63.16003
Submitting a bug through the Xbox App

    1. Navigate to the top right of the application and select your Gamer pic icon
    2. Select "Feedback" in the drop-down menu
    3. Select "Report a problem."
    4. Click "Give new feedback."
    5. Add [Xbox Forum] in "Summarize your feedback," followed by a feedback summary
    6. The category should automatically be selected.
    7. Once complete, post the title of the bug report along with the submission date in this thread
I hope these suggestions help! If this answers your question, please mark the thread as "Answered."

BSOD when installing Game Pass games using Xbox App

    Hello SCOx Stuay,

I am happy to help with this issue and hope to find a solution for you that gets you back to gaming. I am still working on getting an update and seeing what other suggestions I can provide to fix this problem. As I mentioned before, an update was pushed out last week to fix this issue. Then upon further investigation, it was discovered that users using Avira anti-virus were causing computers to crash, unfortunately. I want to provide some suggestions to see if we can fix the issue while we continue to wait for an ETA on when the next update will go live. Below are suggestions we want to try in the order I have posted them.

    Solution1 : Reset Windows 10 store & Xbox app

    1. Open Settings.

    2. Go to Apps -> Apps & features.

    3. Look for Microsoft Store/Xbox App and click it on the right side.

    4. The advanced options link will appear. Click it

    5. Next, click on the Reset button to reset Microsoft Store/Xbox App to the default setting.

Solution2: Try reinstalling the Gaming Services package on your Windows 10 device:

    1. Right-click the Start button in the lower-left corner of the main screen, and then select Windows PowerShell (Admin).
    2. In the Administrator: Windows PowerShell screen, type the following command and press Enter:
    3. Get-AppxPackage *gamingservices* -allusers | remove-appxpackage -allusers
    Solution 3: Disable Advance Installation

Open the Xbox app, navigate to Settings>General and turn off the "Advanced Installation and management features" option in the Xbox app.

    Solution 4: Disabling other services

    • On the windows search bar, type "MSConfig" and open the system configuration app, and then hit enter
    • select the Services tab
    • Click and make sure to Hide all Microsoft services.
    • Then press the Disable all button and apply.
    Solution 5: Disable anti-virus

    • Disable your anti-virus software
    • Then restart your PC
Now that we have gone through these steps. Let's open the Xbox App, attempt to download a game, and see if your device is BSOD. Please let me know if this fixed the issue, and if it didn't, let me know. I will continue to work with my team and understand how frustrating this situation has become. Once I receive some communication from the team, I will update this thread.

BSOD When installing Xbox App games

This solved it too it seems. I had to delete my ESET for it to work. So something with Anti-Virus and Xbox Game App not liking each other is crashing everyone's system.

BSOD When installing Xbox App games

Thanks for your tips. I can relog into my system if I disconnect the network cable but I can't disable my SSD in the device manager. So I had to reset my system to the last recovery point.

In the windows log I found a entry about a problem with the UMDF-reflector. And when I google this I found some entries in forums about a driver problem with the asus managment chip.

Now I have a question to you. Do you have a ASUS mainboard? I have ASUS ROG gaming mainboard ...

BTW. there are a lots of people having the problem: https://www.reddit.com/r/XboxGamePass/comments/td6nzd/bsod_immediately_after_i_click_install/

    ++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++

EDIT: I was able to narrow the error. It has something to do with the Gaming Services. There are two of them. I was able to install Quantum Break and World of Warships from the XBox App. I think the second Gaming Service is for the connect to the MS Cloud. However the Gaming Services that points to the gamingservicesnet.exe in the WindowsApps folder is related to the BSOD.

    ++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++
Well, it seems we have a coincidence.... I also have a ROG Gaming Mainboard!

    Interesting....

maybe reinstalling asus management chip?... bios?....

Thanks for your help! i feel we are close to find the solution...
