Browser Latency vs. Multiplayer Latency HUGE Difference

I got a new Internet connection and when I test the latency on my Xbox One's browser vs Multiplayer there is a huge difference. Browser speed test reads at 15ms, Multiplayer is averaging around 100ms. What gives?

Just to give some additional info, I tested the connection on my PC and it got 30ms. I'm using WiFi for both my PC and Xbox.

I have already done port forwarding on my Xbox One btw.

Also, my old 3MB DSL connection used to get around 70ms, while the 12MB DSL would get 155ms. My new connection is Cable.

Is there anyway to lower the multiplayer latency aside from using a wired connection?

I have a better up and down than you, but my latency/ping is about the same. Sometimes its good and sometimes its bad. Ping/latency makes a huge difference. That looks like your problem.

 

Xbox One DDR3

First of all there is too much latency for the "cloud" to be used for player character interactions. Assume a latency of 100ms just for a round trip data stream to a server, if I'm playing an online multiplayer game assume an additional latency of 100ms.
I'm looking at 1/5 of a second from input to action; too long.

However, non latency dependent calculations can be offloaded from the console, freeing up resources for latency dependent calculations.

Take the soccer stadium someone mentioned earlier as an example. The ONE can offload the whole environment, e.g., the crowd, weather, the announcers, etc... to the cloud and the ONE just has to worry about player character models and physics.

The PS4 has to do everything (possibly)

This is how the ONE will be able to compete with the PS4s better GPU.

DDR3 vs GDDR5 isn't a concern. DDR3 better latency vs GDDR5 better bandwidth.

The latency that your Xbox shows you in the network settings is not representative in actual online gaming. The Xbox pings the servers in Redmond during that test instead of choosing the nearest best result.

Are you experiencing any lag in game itself or are you just basing it off the number shown in the network test on your console ?

I really only play Overwatch and Xenoverse online. In Overwatch I really only notice lag when there is a discrepancy in what happened in my screen, and what happened in my opponent's kill cam. Occasionally there is a split second of lag. Nowhere near as
bad as it was before. As for Xenoverse, some matches are pretty much lag free, others are pretty bad, but overall it is much better than my old Internet connection. Still not as perfect as I'd like though.

 

Does your NAT show as open, moderate or strict ?

 

Then the lag you experience occasionally is probably normal
