Broken HDMI Port Xbox One S

Hello all,

Was having some audio issues while watching videos, so I tried to swap out the HDMI cable, and it turns out that some of the prongs of the HDMI port broke off, and now the Xbox can't send output to the TV. Have a few questions.

Can I ask Microsoft to fix it even if it isn't under warranty, and how much would that process cost?

How can I wipe the information off of the Xbox? I have payment information for multiple accounts on the Xbox, and whether or not I end up sending it in to Microsoft for repair, I would still like to access and delete that information before I send it out, in
case it gets lost in the mail.

Hi there,

Yes, you can send your xbox to Microsoft to get it serviced. Help with your existing Xbox console or accessory
service order, but first you need to Register your device. They will tell you how much will be the cost for servicing.

In case you can still get your hdmi cable connected to your xbox and works (at least just the video), I would recommend just transfer all your data, and games to an external drive, then
sign out of your Xbox Live profile

And if you are not sure How to move Xbox One games to Xbox One X using an external hard drive just follow the steps on that link, it
the same for an Xbox One S if you have one.

1. Open the Settings app on Xbox One.

2. Navigate to the System tab.

3. Select Storage.

4. Scroll over to the right to select the internal drive.

5. Select Transfer.

6. Select items (games, movies, etc) you want to transfer, or select All.

7. Then select copy or move item (would recommend move in your case)

8. Choose the external drive and then just click on Move.

You can follow the steps
here to set up a repair.

As for wiping information off the console, you can try streaming it to a Windows 10 machine and then removing your account that way. Or you can go to https://account.microsoft.com/devices/ and
remove your account from there. If there is more than one account, you would do the same for each of the accounts (logging into the site and removing the console from the account).

As a backup, you can always change the password on the Microsoft account(s) as the new password would be required before anyone can log into the accounts on the console.

It sounds like it's probably the Xbox's HDMI port then. I had something similar happen to my Xbox 360's HDMI port a while back after a power outage. You might be able to stream to your PC from your xbox's screen while its on using your PC's xbox console
companion app if you didn't disable it in your xbox settings. If that works then your HDMI port may be broken.

unfortunately it is impossible to use a xbox one without an hdmi cable, its the only way the xbox one will be able to be displayed. if the hdmi port itself is broken in any way your console will need to be either repaired or replaced since the hdmi cable
is unable to be read by the port. hope this helps.
