  1. Brightness vs Contrast for Xbox Gaming (Darkroom)

    Hi All,

I am looking to buy a new 75" high end TV for my Xbox Series X and wanted to get some people's opinions. Right now, I am debating between what is more important, TV brightness or contrast for gaming?

Please note, I always game in my basement with the lights out, so it is a "darkroom setting". Also, I am not interested in an OLED as I am worried about burn-in (I know some people feel this is a non-issue, but as someone who has anxiety issues, I know the worry of it would drive me crazy!!)

A few options I am considering are (details are from rtings.com):

    1. Samsung QN90A which has a peak HDR brightness rating of 1800 nits and a contrast ratio 26,534:1 (with local dimming)

    2. Hisense Dual Cell U9DG. TV is not available yet, but initial data is reporting a peak HDR brightness of 1000 nits and a contrast ratio of up to 150,000:1 (with local dimming).

Any thoughts on which would provide a better gaming experience for my situation?

Also, as as side question, I am curious what people's thoughts are on the importance of Dolby Vision support (which Samung does not support).

    Thanks,

    :)

Brightness vs Contrast for Xbox Gaming (Darkroom)

Hello, My name is Jesse. I'm an Independent Advisor and a member of the Microsoft community and I'd love to assist you today.

I'll go with number 2. Although brightness is important, but I'll choose contrast everyday and twice on Sundays. Also considering the fact that you play in a dark room, you don't necessarily need that much brightness.

    Hope this helps.

put your brightness all up for the best graphics

does the full game have a pic to calibrate with? I remember the beta brightness settings saying "adjust the brightness tii you can barely see the image" but there was NO image?!. The calibration screen for BC2 with the whites and blacks and having brightness
and contrast settings was fantastic! Does BF3 have a contrast setting?

    Brightness/Contrast problem

    Hi,

It is possible that the issue is caused by an error with the display driver or the Xbox App itself.

To properly isolate your concern, please clarify the following information:

    • Does the issue occur on other apps?
    • Have you done any changes to the computer prior to the issue?
    • When did the issue start to happen?
    • Did the issue start after an update?
    • Does the issue occur on the Xbox App when you are not streaming from Xbox One?

the worst looking game of 2012

@ confused ....... what I'm really saying is that the brightness adjustment works like a contrast control instead. As i increase brightness, the darks get darker and the lights get lighter. I said earlier it seemed to increas both, but really it seems more
    contrast than brightness.

When I increase the brightness, the characters darken ..... if they are out in the open in a light area it makes them more visible, but if they are standing in front of a dark backdrop they blend in with it more

As I said though, by adjusting brightness in-game and using my contrast setting for the tv itself does the tridk. I dont have it perfect but its made my game a heck of a lot better
