Brief lockups while playing Call of Duty/Halo ("The Five Lag")

I've noticed this while playing COD or Halo, although it's possible it happened to me with other games. I've also had it happen on other Xbox 360's as well. I'll be playing like normal, and suddenly the game freezes. The freeze lasts for a second or two,
unfreezes for a second or two, then repeats four more times. It's always the same number every time it happens. This has happened whether the game is installed or not.

Does anyone know why this happens? Although it doesn't happen frequently, it's extremely frustrating. It always seems to happen when I'm in a crucial moment in the match. Or during the freeze, I managed to die somehow. Not sure if it's related to network
manipulation.

I also don't know if others have asked about it. I'd search for this... but what do I call it? I've experienced this problem for quite some time, just I never got around to posting about it.

Well you know when some one claims it is going to be different from other Call of Duty games you feel just maybe they are right..but i guess they were wrong. I however am done wasting money on call of duty games. Probably switch to battlefield.

[/quote]The grass is always greener on the other side, i was fed up with CoD too, so i played Halo 4 for a couple of months, and let's just say, i am a fan of CoD games again, you can have a whole CoD match in the time it takes to even find a Halo 4 game,
and the host migration on Halo 4 is about the length of a CoD match too, and as for the lag, well CoD feels like system link compared to Halo 4.

I rather deal with Halo's lag then Call of Duty's lag any day. Playing Halo 4 made me dislike Call of Duty more.

Indeed, maybe we had different experiences in both games then...

 

Sounds like Xbox lag. I get it on my Xbox every now and then. It's 4 and a half years old.

 

Mine is the Reach edition, got it right when it came out (so around 3 1/2 years old). I just find it strange that the lag is the exact same every time it happens. That's not the way I'm used to seeing lag.

 

My Reach 360 used to do that a bit when playing Halo reach multiplayer. It is more of a frame rare drop sort of thing.

 

I'm not talking about FPS drop. I'm talking about full out freezes.

 

You mean it freezes and locks up?

 

Right. As I said in the OP, it does it in sets of 5. It will freeze for a second or two, and unfreeze for a second or two. It does that 5 times total. It's always 5.

 

meh it happens sometimes but at least its not a total freeze :/
