Bricked after update failed and MS wants me to pay

So I received the update or go offline screen around Monday. I accepted the mandatory update and it failed. The system will not turn on. I have unplugged everything and followed all knowledge base articles but nothing works. update clearly killed my
systems do MS's answer is for me the consumer who had no choice but to update to now pay$135 for repair because it is out of warranty.

i have been an Xbox customer since Halo 1 and on XBL for 12-13 years. I bought 360 and One at launch. I been through red ring of death and replacement of my launch One due to disc drive problems. As a loyal customer, MS wants to screw the consumer when
both it and Sony have faced lawsuits over mandatory updates on several occasions over past 10 years. I post this because other consumers should post and MS should listen.

Yeah either way. It's Microsoft'Security update that bricked my console. Microsoft should be willing to repair or replace it. From my end Microsoft want me to pay so they can fish their update.....

i work for goodwill and we still get lots of xboxes that still(!) work. i'm impressed...my piece of *** xbox 360 elite failed on me after a year of owning it and my slim got bricked by the may 21st 2011 update

 

Have you tried forcing the update via USB?

 

What good would that do the person if the console won't power up?! People need to learn to read before replying!

 

Netranger, yes I did using the USB and the recommended proce c ure of the bind-eject buttons and bind-eject-power to force it on. Nothing. It means that b either I t is a omeh I w stuck mm in standby though unlikely or failure of update fried hard drive
or some other component

 

The XBOX will boot whether the hard drive is dead or not. If the light on the power brick is green when connected to your console and it doesn't power up. It would be a dead component that isn't removeable from the motherboard or the whole board in general.
Either way, it's toast! I do hope Microsoft decides to replace your console for you or that you decide to purchase a new one eventually.

Orange means the system is off, so it sounds like your console is toast. Sorry to be the bearer of bad news!

 

Very aware, which is why I told MS not a hardware/warranty issue but software issue which in a world of updates blurs the line but still......

 

I have the same problem, takes ages for the TV to receive a signal and when it does, the green screen and logo pop up for about a minute then it goes to the home screen.
