Brand New Xbox Series S Controller disconnecting

Bought a brand new Xbox series S and the controller started randomly disconnecting while playing games. I’ve never had this problem with my series X. So I took my spare controller and tried to use that one. It is happening to both controllers across multiple games. I’ve reset the Xbox keeping games, I’ve updated the Xbox and the Xbox controllers. Both of them. And it’s happening more now that I updated all the firmware than I did before. This seems like a series s issue. Does Microsoft have a fix or do I need to just return it?
