Brand new Xbox out of the box and the thing will not download updates

I purchased a brand new xbox one for my kids for Christmas. Upon trying to set it up, I cannot get the thing to download the initial updates. I have gone through all of the diagnostics checks a good 20 times with no luck. My xbox says I have connection,
but every time I try installing the updates it tells me it is unable to do so. I have tried restarting the xbox multiple times over and this does not work. I am using a wireless connection. What is the problem? Please fix this. This is ridiculous that
people purchasing Microsoft's products and looking forward to using them on Christmas day would be running into these issues. I was looking forward to opening it up and enjoying this on Christmas day. I have to go back to work tomorrow and unfortunately
it looks like Microsoft has *** this up big time. I tried doing the offline updates, but it appears you have to be a computer expert to do that. Please help!

I would suggest unplugging everything,and start from scratch,making sure console is plugged into main socket and not an extension/splitter,I'd set everything up before plugging console into mains

 

Having the same problem. This is very frustrating. I really hope Microsoft has some type of compensation plans for this extreme inconvenience. This really put a damper on the kids Christmas. Very bad service on such an important day!!

 

Xbox Live is currently experiencing issues which is why you can't download the updates right now.

Keep an eye on the system status page -
support.xbox.com/.../xbox-live-status

Once the service is restored you will be able to download the initial updates.

Sony is in the same situation on PlayStation right now too.

 

How long until these issues are expected to be fixed? That support page just says the issue is being worked on. Do they have an expected time frame?

 

Same here. Kids have a $900 worth of paper weights until they get it up. I'd like a few moments with the hackers if they ever catch them. What do they get out of ruining kids Christmas day?

 

Obviously I'm now aware that some school kids took down xbox servers today and I spoke to two customer service representives today, the first one talked about the company in the 3rd person as in ''they will do this, they will do that" to resolve issues etc,
when I questioned about compensation as it has ruined my kids Christmas. He also said Xbox actually he said "they" would know I had tried and failed to do updates because of attempting to log onto profile...Whaaaat! I couldn't because it wouldn't let me.
A complete fantasist! The second guy I spoke to hung up in the middle of me explaining issues and when I tried to call back support by phone it was closed. He just hung up, knowing it was time to go home!!!! What a joke! I want 3 years free family subscription
for ruining my families Christmas - even this isn't enough.

 

Mine is actually downloading the update now, so I mildly optimistic that Microsoft has come through.

 

We was able to do the update but now when I insert the disc it doesn't recognize it. Still can't play.

 

Agreed what is Microsoft going to do for all the ruined Christmas thanks for nothing but a bad Xmas for my kids

My kids Christmas is ruined we are siting on two new paper weights almost $1000 worth and nothing. Tried calling xbox and nothing no answers. Wow what a Christmas I hope xbox Microsoft will do something about this soon. I hope they find someway to compensate
my two sons for ruinnig Christmas day.

 

This problem is probably due to a DDoS attack, the same thing is happening to PSN, odds are it won't be fixed for a day or so I woulden't blame MS directly but they knew about the attack and didn't prepare for it but that's been their MO since the Xbone
launched

 

A complete bummer when I ran into this problem while setting up my sons xbox one. But now that I'm aware of the problem I just started playing target practice with my son's nerf guns and checking the Xbox status every now and then. You get used to looking
for other alternative when things are out of your hands and you live in a place like Mexico. Just let go and find some other way to have fun with your kids, like when you have a blackout, no since in staying *** off and frustrated and not enjoying your kids
on this day, cause they win, that's why they did it.
