Brand new XB One controller wont turn on if i use a rechargeable battery

Hey all. I just opened a brand new controller that I bought last year. I put a rechargeable xbox battery in and it wont turn on. The xbox light on the controller blinks when I press it but thats it. I put AA batteries in it and it works fine. I use that
same rechargeable battery in another controller and it works fine. I tried updating the controller but its already up to date. any help would be greatly appreciated.

Wireless controller - Brand new battery pack doesn't work.

One of my Xbox 360 controllers was missing a battery pack, so I bought a brand new one. However, when I put the brand new battery pack in the controller, the controller doesn't turn on. I've tried it with both disposable batteries and rechargeable batteries.

Strangely, the controller does turn on when I use the battery pack from my other controller.

Conversely, when I put the brand new pack into the other controller, that doesn't turn on either.

Any help with this issue? I feel like I wasted my money and I feel like at this point the only way to get the controller working again is to use those sketchy "turn on controller without a battery pack" tricks on Youtube (such as wedging aluminum foil or
pennies at the top).

 

XBOX 360 Wireless Controller Rechargeable Battery

I just bought a brand new XBOX 360 Wireless Controller that came with 2 AA batteries. It also says you can use a rechargeable battery with it instead of the 2 AA batteries.

I have some of the original wireless controllers with the original rechargeable batteries. Do those batteries work with the new controllers or do I need to buy a new kind of rechargeable battery?

Does the controller turn on if it is directly plugged into the console through a USB connection?

This would be the last suggestion before determining that the controller may need to bereplaced as per
(Step 5) within the wizard.

hey, yes it worked when i plugged it in. and as i mentioned, it works if i use AA batteries. do you think Microsoft will replace it for me even though i dont have a receipt anymore? you can tell by looking at it thats its new.

 

Where did you get the new controller from? Did you consider getting a replacement?

I know some rechargeable batteries (AA rechargeable, not the play and charge kit) are slightly bigger than normal disposable AA batteries, so just make sure that your batteries are inserted correctly, and are making contact with the metal bits in the controller.

 

Sorry, I should have specified... I'm using play and charge rechargeable batteries.
