Brand New Gamer Tag Creation

I followed the directions on the back of the software that came with my Xbox one saying if I didn't have an account I could create one online. Naturally I did this not realizing that it could have been done through the Xbox one itself. That being said the
website gives you a generic gamertag and then once you change it you have used your one free change. I didn't even realize what a gamertag was at that the time and now I am stuck with this unless I pay $10. The software or manual should let you know that the
account could have been created through the Xbox one which it does not. Xbox Support directed me to the forums here to see if there was anything that could be done about allowing me to change the gamer tag now that I know what it used for.

Finding microsoft password

Choose 'Download Profile' on your console's sign in page.

If it's a brand new console, skip the profile creation part.

Changing your GT does nothing, it's either a brand new tag or being invited into games that works.

Nobody here can change your tag for you, support should not have sent you here.

The only ones that could give you a free change are phone support.

If you created the log-in account with the same e-mail address as your Microsoft Account it should've used your existing tag.

I understand that can be quite irritating, There is a feedback option at the bottom of xbox.com. That is the best place to leave suggestions such as this. The 30 day wait period is a protection method done for you, in order to protect your account from someone
else stealing it, it gives you 30 days to cancel that if it is not you.

You are given a random gamertag to start with and one free change that must be used with 90 days of the account creation.
