Bought used Xbox One and previous owner has 6 months of Live Gold left on his profile does it ...

Hi everyone. I used to be a PlayStation gamer, but I have finally made the switch to Xbox. I have a lot to catch up on and I don't know much about Xbox Live yet. I just bought a used Xbox One (to save money, haha) and the previous owner said he has 6 months
of Xbox Live Gold remaining (although I have yet to verify this claim). Since then I have created my own profile/account on the system. Would I need to use the previous owner's profile to take advantage of this already paid for 6 months of Live or would I
be able to use Live from my new account on the system for the remaining 6 months before purchasing it for myself? I hope that my question is under the appropriate forum heading and that my question isn't too noobish for the Xbox community lol I am really excited
about having the Xbox One and would appreciate any helpful responses. Thank you.

It sounds like you bought a used Xbox and the previous owner bought a new/different Xbox, once he made that new one his home console, you lost access to the previous games. At least, that's my educated guess on the matter.

 

Transfer DLC, save games etc to my sons gamertag

Hi. My son has played a lot af games using my Xbox live profile. He has his own gamertag and I want to buy a gold membership to him. Can I transfer all his achievements, DLC etc to his Gamertag? or does he have to continue to use
my Gold account to play his previous games?

Congratulations on your Xbox One, Welcome to the Xbox Community! The only way you're Xbox Live Profile can use that 6 Months of Xbox Live Gold is if that users profile is Downloaded and installed on that Console. Also, the User would need to set that as
their Home Xbox One. However, if the user Delete their Profile, than the Gold Membership can't be shared. If it is that case, than you will need to purchases a Xbox Live Gold membership for you're Account. With a Gold Membership, you can get Free Games with

Thanks XBLVIP TOPDOG! That helps a lot. The previous owner's profile is still installed on the console so I guess I should still be able to use Live. btw I know that you can check how long until your own subscription to Live Gold runs out on Xbox's website,
but that of course doesn't show anything about the subscription my Xbox One's previous owner had and I was wondering if there was a way for me to check how long exactly until that subscription expires.

 

Like TOPDOG says, if he never makes a different Xbox One his home console and if he doesn't change his password then you will be able to share that accounts gold until it runs out.

In regards to your question about finding out when the gold ends on that account, it's not possible to check on xbox.com as you would have to log in to that account and you don't have the log in details.

If you sign into the account they left on your console and go to Settings >
Subscriptions, you can see when their gold runs out that way.

Honestly I would recommend against this and just get your own gold subscription. The main reason being licenses. In the future it could causes lots of problems and confusion especially when trying to play the free
Games With Gold titles as they would have to be downloaded on the previous owners profile and then when their
gold runs out you wouldn't be able to play those games and would have to buy them again.

In the end it's up to you what you do with your account/console but I would personally just get my own gold for my own account.

Thanks sniffles x I appreciate the advice. You mentioned that any free Games With Gold titles will be gone when the previous owner's Gold runs out. Would any purchased games also be gone or just free downloads? The previous owner bought a lot of games (about
20) and stored them on the console and I don't want to lose them. Should I backup those games to a flash drive or something? What would you recommend? Thanks.

 

• You may have issues playing games with gold titles when their gold runs out, even if you get gold after, as they weren't downloaded on your account.
  
• When their gold runs out you would still be able play anything you paid for and downloaded on your own account.
  
• You will always be able to play digital content that their account paid for as long as they don't recover their account on a different xbox and make that new xbox their home console.
  

Backing up the content won't make a difference if they ever change password/recover their account elsewhere.

All I'm going to say is be prepared. One day it's likely you will suddenly not have access to the content.

 

So what if the games aren't Games With Gold titles? What if the previous owner bought them from the Xbox Store and downloaded them to that system originally? Could I still lose those paid for games if the previous owner makes another Xbox One his Home Xbox
One? I don't care if I lose any free Games With Gold that the previous owner downloaded, but some of the others (such as Ryse: Son of Rome, Amazing Spiderman 2, Forza 5, Need For Speed: Rivals, NBA 2K14, etc.) I really want to keep. Thanks again.

 

Yes you could lose them if the previous user did what you said above.
