Bought HALO 5 console over a month ago. Still can't use it.

We pre-ordered the HALO 5 Limited edition console for my son. We picked it up and I thought I'd do the right thing and download the game and install it before we give it to him.

3 days later, the game had finally downloaded. Ridiculous.

Anyway, I started it, it worked, I was satisfied that my son would have a 'working' present when we gave it to him.

Now, as we are moving house just after Christmas, I decided to give him his present. XBox One turns on, suddenly Halo 5 is 'installing' again. Starting from 0%.

How many times will 'patches', 'upgrades', 'bug-fixes' be rolled out and require this entire game to be reinstalled?

Digital downloads are a joke. I can understand how they work for Microsoft, they increase their reach and require very little outlay by them but now, my son gets let down, I had to stuff around for hours trying to get some sort of support from Microsoft and
I can't use Netflix for the next few days because I'm downloading a 60.6GB file that I thought was already working.

I also had a look at the link on the XBox One site that seemed promising:

Halo 5: Guardians Limited Collector’s Edition Disc Exchange Programme
Learn more about how you can exchange your digital download code, included in the Halo 5: Guardians Limited Collector’s Edition, for a physical copy.

Shame it is a dead link. I would use that option in a snap. Even posting the darned game from the other side of the world would be faster than this install.

Who would have thought that Microsoft would find a way to make conventional postage faster than the internet?

Really disappointed so far. Ruining my XBox one experience.

    :)

    No 'Gold' status?!

I bought 12 month prepaid Xbox Live Gold a month ago and today I can't play Crimson Dragon, Forza 5 multiplayer etc...

    What's happened?!

FYI, even with discs the games have to be downloaded before being played and the same updates will install.

You can also do other things on the One while the game is downloading. So you can use Netflix.

It is my understanding that no, the majority of the game is installed from the disc, not downloaded. There are components and patches that are downloaded but the bulk of the game itself is installed from the disc.

In any case, that is the nub of my concern. Many people in many countries still don't have access to cheap, fast internet. So 60.6GB downloads are prohibitively large and slow.

Can I watch Netflix? Perhaps you have been to my house and experienced something different to me? Shows are constantly pausing for buffering as the bandwidth is being used by the XBox One. So I suppose I can technically watch Netflix, as long as you believe
it is acceptable to take two hours to watch a one hour program.

In any case, my install is now at 22%. I pity the hell out of any parent that is going to give this to their kids for Christmas. "Yay, Halo 5" only to be told that they have to wait 3 days before they can play it. I even prepared for it. I downloaded the
whole game and update a month ago. Now it has to download again? It's going to be a total of 7 or so whole days before my kids get to use the damned thing. What a joke.

This does not leave me with a good customer experience. I imagine there will be more backlash after Christmas, too.

If you're not able to watch Netflix while you're downloading a game, then that would be an issue with your internet. Same with the slow downloading times. You would need to contact your ISP. The console itself is made to be able to do more than one thing
    at a time.

There is nothing wrong with my internet. We aren't all blessed with 'ludicrous speed'. If game developers and Microsoft are releasing products that are reliant on 'fibre to the home' then they should expect some disappointment from their customers.

I am able to stream video. I am able to download. I just can't download 60GB of data AND watch seamless video streaming. That's not unusual.

"Ludicrous speed" doesn't necessarily mean there's good connection. If you can't do both at the same time, then it's something to do with your internet connection and not getting enough bandwidth.

    Thanks for your suggestions.

Lets assume there is something wrong with my internet speed, even though it provides the service that is normally required of it. This doesn't change the fact that 60GB will still take a very long time to download. Now I'm at 38%. I am currently getting
a download speed of 2.37Mb p/s. That's normal for ADSL2 in Australia, especially when you live as far away as I do from the exchange.

Come Christmas day, many parents will have a Halo 5 console that their kids can't play.

It's bad PR and a clear result of this new method of game delivery.

And a sure way to annoy a person with a legitimate complaint is to have another person come in and 'white-knight' the company responsible, telling the customer that it is essentially their own fault.
