So for reasons now unknown, I bought a DLC at gamestop for Advanced Warefare. I redeem the code to get it added and it just credits my Microsoft account for $50.00. But then I can't buy the game as there is $4 in sales tax. So I add my paypal and try
agian. It again says I am short for the tax when using the credit (NOTE TO PROGRAMMERS AT MICROSOFT FROM ANOTHER SOFTWARE ENGINEER). It is at this point it should have said, we have used your $50 credit, which alternate account do you want to use for the
$4 sales tax?????????????????????????

So I ended up trying the paypal account first hoping it was smart enough to use the Microsoft credit first. NOPE! Now I am stuck with this stupid $50 and the entire thing was charged to Pay Pal.

I am REALLY ticked off that I have to spend time on Christmas checking for and writing forums for this issue. Come on Microsoft. This is a complete fail. Gamestop should have figured out the flippin tax and just let me use the code easy peasy. Is this
really your intended user experience???????????? Go back to your software Use Case and redesign your processes.

DLC and Taxes (Call of Duty Ghosts Season Pass)

I know that he uses a credit card on his account. As for purchasing MSP (in the past) or putting money on his account from his Credit card, I am not sure.

It was Microsoft that charged the tax I think. I have never had Paypal charge tax where it shouldn't. I just don't understand. I have never been charged tax for DLC before this.

Didn't let me split payment

I was trying to buy the halo 3 mythic ii map for $9.99 when I had $11.05 in my account. It told me I didn't have enough because of added tax, so I selected my paypal to see if it would let me use the money to pay for part of it (I was off by 14 cents!),
and have thew 14 cents charged to the card, but it didn't let me do that, and it charged the whole $10 to the paypal. The whole thing is just ridiculous really, and I think MSFT should do better.

Sorry to hear it. Tax is required on all digital purchases. Did you make the purchase on your console or the website? The website is not set up to use currency on your account. If you made the purchase on the console you would have had an option to pay
with currency.

I worked with xbox support yesterday (they were very nice and helpful). But I want to call our a flaw for everyone and perhaps the Microsoft programmers on their ecommerce capabilities. It would seem that this is an issue with the way the Advanced Warfare
company wants to be paid. They do not allow paypal for split payments (what I was told). But credit cards do work with split payments.

So when you go to pay and you are short on the tax (which is completely predictable sadly instead of Gamestop just charging you for it ahead of time), you need to use a credit card (not Paypal) and they are saying it will then do the right thing to use your
MS balance first, then do the local tax on your credit card.

So it would seem the engineers at Microsoft have setup a game of "take your chances". You have a 50% chance of getting this right by using a credit card, or another 50% where you guess wrong and the paypal option will just apply it all to your paypal account
and leave you with $50 in your account (which is not why you went to Gamestop in the first place).

As one software engineer to another, totally lame. Fix this and put up correct error messages so your users don't play guessing games and need to work with your support on Christmas. You error message about needing to pay for tax should have stated only
credit cards will allow you to use your existing MS balance first via a split payment. This is completely preventable with about 20 minutes of programming.

Sorry, I wanted to reply to your question, I was using the console for everything to redeem the Gamestop purchase of the AW DLC.

OK, so I purchased the expansion pass via gamestop and then got onto the marketplace to redeem my code. The code credited my account with $35.00 (weird I know why not directly access the DLC and say it is purchased) [old way of microsoft]. I then proceded
to buy the expansion directly choosing the $35.00 credit and then microsoft charged me tax again ( I had already paid this once via Gamestop). So I am not upset that $3.00 more has been paid out, but I would like for either Gamestop or Microsoft to recognize
that by advertizing DLC at anyprice and charging tax twice (and they blame each other for the issue) they are both in turn *** the public and an unjust manner. I really don't care if I ever see the $3.00 again but I do care that somebody fixes it for future
gamers. Gamestop has a right to tax DLC passes as it is game content but the codes given are that of a microsoft account credit. Therefore, I would levee this complaint against microsoft, as I am doing. Before you go "this is your fault" remember I bought
the content from a store with a giftcard that I had received and that is the only reason I did it this way. Essentially the code microsoft has given Gamestop is messing up or Gamestop is lying on it website and microsoft should handle it accordingly either
way.

i have the same problem and i know theres nothing wrong with my credit card because i just bought a game from gamestop with it....someone please find out how to fix this....
