Bought a digital gift game for a friend, but they already have it.....what now?

I recently bough a digital game for a friend, but, they already owned it.

Why did MS let me buy a game for someone who already owned the title? How do I get my money back?

My friend attempted to redeem the code, and was then told he already owned that particular game.

Is the code now even valid for use by someone else?

In that case contact microsoft support team. Because I’m not quite sure you could get a refund about it :/

And honestly, that’s a nice idea if Xbox can automatically warn you before purchase that your friend already owns this product, wel such is life mate!

I bought the game and have submitted a refund req.

Just hope I'm not left with a code I have no use for.

When you purchase a gift for a friend the system asks for a delivery point either an email address or gamer tag, The system then sends a 25 digit redeem code to that delivery point. It does not check if the recipient already has the game or if they are
in the same region as the sender. That is down to you as the customer and purchaser to check.

As the recipient already has the game in this case it is down to the purchaser/ the person who sent the gift to issue a refund claim.
