Borderlands Update Seemingly Breaks Game

Hello!

I recently purchased Borderlands (the first) from the Xbox 360 store, and am having some issues with it. On initial start up it prompted for an update. Following the update, whenever I would start the game there would be no sound and would always crash the
Xbox at the beginning loading screens (home button didn't even work). I cleared my cache so I could try running it without the update. Without the update the game played without issue.

Usually I would just play the un-updated game, but I would like to play it with someone over Xbox Live, and proceeding without the update means I am automatically disconnected from Xbox Live.

What is the best way to fix this, if there is a way, please?

What the update did:

It's great that they're seemingly fixing stuff fast this time around along with the ability to hotfix. In a couple of weeks this time two years ago the game breaking javelin glitch began and wasn't patched for a month.

 

Should i trade my RE6 for Borderlands 2 ?

I loved Borderlands, the game was freaking awesome and I had a blast playing with friends on co-op. Now Borderlands 2 is out, and looks to be a killer game, and for some reason I still haven't bought the game. I think I have some burn out going on, so
I have been giving games a break. Guess we all get to that point some times and need a break from things. Hopefully when I am done taking a break, there will be a price drop on this game. I'd pay $60 no prob, but if I can find it a little cheaper, well
there's nothing wrong with that.

We understand that there are startup issues with Borderlands in regards to audio not becoming available, and we're here to help.

We would like to clarify where the game is being played, being that is it on an Xbox One console or an Xbox 360?

If this happens to be on an Xbox One, our suggestion is to Uninstall and Reinstall the game to perform maintenance
on any corruption that may be present from the update.

If this happens to be on an Xbox 360 console, attempt to Clear the Cache from the console to perform maintenance on any corruption
within the storage,

Try these out for us and let us know if this works.

It is an Xbox 360 console. I have cleared the cache a few times, yes. Whenever I re-downloaded the update after clearing the cache, the same issue persisted.

Also it is not just the issue of no sound, the game crashes the console completely on start up with the update.

Continuing without the update the game is fine.

Now our next suggestion is to attempt an System Update Rollback:

To reinstall the latest Xbox 360 update, follow these steps:

1. Clear the system cache. To do this, see the "Clear the system cache" section above.
   
2. Roll back and then reinstall system updates. To do this:
   1. Press the Guide button on your controller.
   2. Go to settings and select System.
   3. Select Storage.
   4. Enter the following button sequence: X, LB, RB, X, LB, RB, X.
      
   5. Select the option to roll back all system updates that are installed. The console will restart automatically and then download the updates again.
      
3. Reset your network hardware. Here's how:
   1. Unplug the power cable from the back of the router, modem, or gateway. If you have a router and a modem, unplug the power cable from both devices.
      
   2. Turn off your Xbox 360 console by pressing the power button on the front of the console.
      
   3. Wait 5 minutes.
   4. If you're using a router, plug in the router and wait for all the lights to return to their normal state.
      
   5. Plug in the rest of your hardware and try to connect to Xbox Live.

Try this for us and let us know if this works.

I have done the above steps, and the problem is unfortunately still persisting. After applying the game update, the game becomes unplayable.

Our next suggestion is our Xbox 360 Screen Freeze Solution wizard, with specifics down to the model type of the console
being used.

Go ahead and follow the wizard and allow us to know if there were any solutions that resolved the issue.

Sorry for the delayed response. I have tried the wizard's suggestions and there is no change.

If there is a problem with the update itself, is it something I should take to another support portal?

2K Support Portal, as well as the
Gearbox Forums.

The developer team also has a Twitter in case you have an account on this platform.

For anyone else experiencing this problem, I filed a ticket with 2K support and this is the reply I got:

Unfortunately, I'm afraid that as the Xbox 360 is an older console, not all updates will be able to run due to the contrast in software. That's why people experience the issue only after installing the update. I wish there was more that I could do for you,
and it pains me to say this, but I'm afraid we won't be able to help you with this issue.
