Xbox One cold boot-up time increases dramatically when using an ext. HDD via USB (about 2 minutes, 20 seconds).

I am using a pretty good and fast USB 3.0 HDD with 7200 rpm.

    Is this a general problem?

    :)

  2. External HDD and Console becomes unresponsive.

    Hello Everyone,

I have an issue with my external hard drive where each time a boot from instant mode the xbox becomes unusable when I lunch a game until I power off my HDD and boot it back. As soon as I do that the Xbox is working properly.

I'm using a MediaSonic Enclosure with a WD 1tb black edition.

XBOX is set up to shutdown the external HDD at shutdown.

    Regards,

    ,

  3. Xbox 360 freezes up on start up.

    Hey onyx62is,

Tried a new HDD and the box froze up again. Without the external drive, boot up is fine. Put in either of the external drives and the box freezes up. Hard to believe 2 external drives are bad and that both give the same characteristics. What do ya think?

Nobody has mentioned boot-up times that I know of, though load times on games seems to improve with a good/fast drive.

I'd be interested in this as I plan to buy a external within the year.

    Peace, J.R.

i wonder if the X1 is running some sort of integrity check on the hard drive, or it takes a really long time to mount the drive, i won't think it would have that much of an effect on the boot time since the external only stores games and apps, or does it
hold more than that? maybe it keeps some sort of swap partition...

Instant-on is the same speed for me with or without my external attached. Maybe you should try that instead?

  7. I'd have to dig to find (and don't want to), but someone posted a thread some time shortly after external HDDs became available and in the post stated that from his experience, using an external HDD was actually faster than using the internal HDD and posted
times for various actions on both for us to compare. I'm sure you can find that thread if you dig for it enough.

@ Galactic Geek: I saw this thread, too. It only showed loading times of games, though.

@ Burst Axe: You are right. But Instant on isn`t an option for me because I don`t like my Xbox and HDD running all the time.

The hdd does not run all the time when in instant on!

The only thing that "runs" is the power pack fan.

    That`s strange. I am using a Buffalo HD-LX3.0TU3-EU Drivestation 3TB.

When i am turning on my Xbox via Gamepad the white light on the controller begins to blink and search for a connection. Normally the white light stays on and Xbox is booting up within a minute or so.

But when my external HDD is attached, the white light keeps on blinking for some time and goes out in the end. After my Xbox has finished with the boot up process, I have to turn on my Gamepad a second time in order to use it.

    SOLVED! (more or less)

I tried my brother`s ext. HDD (WD my book 2TB). No problems with this one!

    Reasons are probalby...

    1. There`s simply a general problem with some HDDs (like the Buffalo Drivestation)

    2. Some HDDs (like the Buffallo, again) shut themselves completely down and don`t use any kind of standymode (at least, when connected to a Xbox One). The console may have some problems with this. (Howefer my PC doesn`t suffer under this problem).
