Boot up behaviour since September update

Thought I'd make a thread for this. Basically since doing the update my console seems to boot very strangely.

Now when I switch on at the wall my power brick goes white immediately and a whine emits from the xbox, sounding like it's on before I've touched the pad. I then press the button on the pad and the pad lights up. However the console doesn't now light up.
It seems to reboot itself before deciding to light up and then eventually go to the home screen. I might be going mad but I'm sure it never did this sequence before. It seems to take a lot longer as well.

Tried power cycling but to no avail.

    :)

    Power supply buzzing noise

I only started to notice this noise on mine since the september update (which has also been causing my console to turn itself off shortly after boot).

    september update rolling out

I read about the miniguide here:
    www.theverge.com/.../xbox-one-media-player-september-update

"The update includes a number of improvements focused at the TV integration on the Xbox One, including a boot to TV option, live TV mini guide, and an expansion of Microsoft’s OneGuide TV guide data to Brazil, Mexico, Austria, and Ireland."

If I choose to switch off the xbox from the home screen, wait for power brick to go orange and then press the button on the pad it boots like before. No whine and no drama.

Surely I don't need to keep it in standby all the time now do I?

  5. Hey there ArtoisArab!

Sorry to hear about the strange behavior. I recommend trying a few troubleshooting steps to see if we can get this issue sorted.

Please give the following steps a try:

    • Press and hold the power button on your Xbox One console for 10 seconds.
    • Once your console is powered off, unplug the power cord.
    • Wait 5 minutes and then plug in your console.
    • If possible, try plugging your console directly into a wall outlet instead of a surge protector.

Give the listed steps a try and let us know if you are continuing to experience the issue.

Yep tried a few power cycles and unplugging but no difference. The only way to get my pad to now activate my console from first boot is to have left it switched on at wall previously. Something definitely has happened after applying the September update.

  7. Hey ArtoisArab!

Do you have your console set to Energy-saving power mode or Instant-On power mode?

Always energy saving. Basically the only way to boot straight from the pad is to leave the power brick on at the wall. I'm a bit OCD about leaving things on all the time but I guess in energy saving mode not a whole lot is going on (about 0.5kw isn't it?).

If my energy bills don't startle the wife then I'll be happy to leave as is!

  9. Hey ArtoisArab!

When your console is in Energy-saving mode, it will use about 0.5 watts of power. It will also take longer for your console to start up. You can find out a little more information on our Xbox
    One power supply
    page.

I've had this since the update too. Originally I thought it was just taking an extra 30 seconds to boot up and light up the logo on the console, but having found your post, and replicated your process, I can confirm this is what's happening for me too.

Before the update the power supply would go orange, it wouldn't boot up until you turned it on so something has changed.

Perhaps Support can advise the reason this is now happening, and if it's for a new background process?

Have spoken to MS about this and they are aware of it now, as it's being reported by others. They said it's a certain batch and offered a replacement, but did say the Engineers are working on a fix to be released if I'm happy to wait.

As my last replacement took a few days to redownload everything I think I'll wait.
