The Witcher 3 developers have said a few times that even DX12 will not help the X1 with resolution because of it's lack of shaders

In Phil we trust, he said it wasn't going to make that much of a difference, and I tend to believe he is correct, and as the Dev stated, 900p or 1080p, it's still the same game.

 

I am guessing you guys do not understand how DX12 works.. so let me explain

The dev is referring to his own game.. Witcher 3.. which is pretty much already made ... obviously DX12 will not help push Witcher 3 to 1080 since DX12 is due out in the summer with the first full DX 12 games due out late this year or next year.. that being
said.. you could say the same for BF Hardline... DX12 is not helping that game either

games that will use DX12 from the ground up... from pre developing stages will no doubt be able to run 1080 especially with W10 and DX12 making the eSram easier to utilize

but go ahead.. flame away...

Seems the dev was not talking only about his game but overall system performance.

@Lloydy2K i think any resolution changes would require a much bigger change from Microsoft than dx12 upgrade to be honest.

I am surprised as this is the first deceloper who is bluntly stating that dx12 will not change resolution and Ms needs smth bigger than dx12.

I am leaning to believe that thats it when it comes to res for x1 900p is the sweet spot

I will take the guy who develops games opinion of anybody who posts on these forums and pretends like they understand DX12. The Witcher 3 is releasing on Xbox 1 he has no reason to say anything other then the truth deal with it.

Where did you get that information from?

Everything I've read (even the Stardock tech demo) the developers are expecting to see great things in the future (years) from DX12 but they have all admitted that current low/mid hardware won't see much of anything.

Look at all the tech demos....the performance gains are all being seen on high end PC cards not mid range and they haven't even benched the One in any of those demos.

If DX12 was going to be as big as many of you think it will be on the One they would have shown us and they haven't.

 

Don't forget that Windows will also be getting DirectX 12. Any benefits the One gets from DX12, the PC will also get.

Phil Spencer is absolutely right in tempering people's expectations. The benefits that DX12 brings might but subtle but they are often the things that add life into the game world. I remember playing Arkham City for the first time with DX11 and was amazed
when I actually took the time to see how the smoke in the environment swirled around the Dark Knight.

DirectX 12 is going to bring improvements to Xbox One games. If that isn't to the resolution of them...well does that really matter when you are having fun playing the game.

 

I'll take the improvements DX12 will bring to PC, consoles, and other platforms - no matter how small or big the changes may be. As far as we all know now, it's all positive and that's really all anyone needs to know at this point...

 

I read this guys interview, he said he'd rather play on a low end PC then an XB1. This is interesting since a low end pc could barely handle witcher 2 let alone 3. He is allowed an opinion I guess, I was wondering how long before someone posted this here,
