Check if an update is available, restart the console and go to the ingame mail box to accept the gifts

A hard reset may solve this problem.

Hold down the power button until the system shuts down and unplug the power cable.

Wait for 5 min and plug it back in and restart the console.

Also if you are using the xbox version of the game the social mail area does not receive your items they are directly downloaded through the xbox store and accessed in game after a certain point
