BluRay update. This should not happen

So for the last week my internet connection has been terrible with about 90% downtime, it's a tradeoff for living in the country. Tonight the wife and I were kicked back watching season 4 of Chuck when all of a sudden in the middle of the episode the screen
goes blank and the "BluRay player needs an update, blah blah blah" screen pops up. Needless to say I was *** but ok lets get this over with and I select Update. 30seconds later I get the "installation stopped" pop up because as I thought might happen, my internet
went back out before it could update. Now I'm stuck as the Bluray app knows it needs to be updated but without internet it can't so it will not playback any disc and no amount of disconnecting my xbox from the network, hard resets, etc will fix it. It just
keeps staying "Needs an update"

I'm not mad that it's stuck mid update. That's not Microsoft's fault. What I am FURIOUS about is there is absolutely no reason the BluRay app should kick me out mid episode to do an update. It's obvious that at some point during the show my internet briefly
synced and the console detected the update. However there is no reason the for the Bluray app to use the network connection unless I authorize it through a BluRay menu. I know there is reasons for updating the app, especially for AACS licenses but since I
already successfully playing the BluRay there was no emergency reason. No reason.....and it most certainly should never interrupt the viewing of any media to do so. Thanks for ruining our plans to conclude season 3 this evening.

Blu-Ray Error Code 0002 "Needs Update"

Are you connected to the internet? When you start the bluray app, if you are connected to the internet and signed in to Live), it should tell you an app update is available. I got a bray app update this morning when I tried a bluray.

If that doesn't prompt you to update, then I'd uninstall the bluray app, reboot the machine and then install the bluray app again.

Not sure if this should happen...

Try to delete your profile from your console ( delete profile only) and then do an account recovery and see if that resolves your issue. See the article below for steps on how to recover your account.

Normally you wouldn't be prompted to update an app when you start it up, system updates will interrupt what ever your doing and a new system update as just been released the other day it might be worth checking to see if you have that update just a thought.

I agree a lot of the issue's aren't related to the bluray discs, it's the firmware on the bluray drive or the app that needs patching, I had something different happen though, my issues was with X-Men: The Last Stand on bluray, it just give me the error
message saying the firmware needs updating on the bluray player in order to play the disc, I put it in my ps4 and it worked first time, tried it with two other bluray players and they all played it flawlessly.

So there must be a lot of firmware/patches required for the drive for certain blurays. I'm sure they will find out what the problem is and hopefully patch the app or address the issues in the next firmware update

StalkingDAVE, did you get the newest update 1408? That has the new 3D support in it. Also once you have the update, you will have to update the bluray app as well. Just put a regular dvd, bluray or 3d bluray in to have the app update if the xbox doesn't
do it on its own.

Hello,

in my own experience it is possible to use the BluRay offline, however if the BluRay player needs to be updated and you are offline, it will not play disk. You may need to connect to the internet to update the player.
