Bluetooth headset connectivity on Xbox one S (All Digital)

We recently purchased 2 x Xbox One S (All Digital) consoles for our children along with 2 sets of bluetooth headsets, we believed to be compatible with Xbox One.

The consoles came with no ‘written instructions’ to explain what all the connections are for on the back panel & I have exhausted hours of time searching for any information on how to connect a bluetooth headset to these consoles, but keep hitting dead ends?
My son even has a wired headset, which there was no obvious way to connect either.

Is it true that these consoles don’t actually support bluetooth function, even via connection by USB at the back? If so, I find this hard to believe, as a huge element of the gaming experience online is communication between other players & friends!

Can somebody please explain either 1. How a bluetooth headset can be connected?

or in the event that this cannot be done?...

    2. Why these consoles have been designed in such a way to detract from the ‘user friendly’ arena that we have grown used to?

What happened to the ‘Plug & Play’ mindset?

At the moment I have 2 unhappy teenagers who cannot fully engage in the gaming experience that they expected. They have the fundamental equipment in front of them, but the consoles (so far), appear to be lacking the means of connecting such an essential piece
    of hardware!

    :)

Unable to connect Turtle Beach stealth 600 2nd gen to xbox, can anyone please help?

    Hi,

I have xbox one s and bluetooth controller. I couldn't manage to pair my bluetooth headset (sony wh-1000xm3) with bluetooth controller. (Since BT devices can not be connected with CONSOLE via bluetooth, I try to connect BT headset with CONTROLLER).

How can I pair BT headset and controller?

    Thanks for your reply.

Will PS3 Bluetooth Headset work with Xbox One?

The Xbox One console doesn't support Bluetooth. That headset won't work with the Xbox One in any way.

The new Xbox One controllers (the ones that come with the Xbox One S) have Bluetooth, but that's only used to connect the controller to a Windows 10 PC through Bluetooth.

Unfortunately, Xbox One does not and has not ever supported Bluetooth connectivity. The current-gen Xbox One controllers do have Bluetooth, but only for use when connecting with PCs or mobile devices.

Headsets designed for Xbox One will have descriptions on them that indicate they work with the Xbox One family of devices. They will have similar artwork to the game boxes (the green Xbox band across the top) or will have a "Made for Xbox" logo on the packaging.

I do get your point, but users still have a wide variety of headsets in the marketplace at an equally wide range of price points even if they don't use Bluetooth connectivity to Xbox One itself. I've not used the optical out variant that Palmetto mentioned,
but I have used USB (RIG 800LX) and wired-to-the-controller (Xbox One Stereo Headset), both with excellent results. Plus, I would trust his experience with the optical-out setup, so there are options. :)

    Hi Stuart,

    Thanks for your prompt reply.

My son already tried connecting his wired headset to the controller, but they unfortunately didn’t work. This particular headset is usb powered & we even tried connecting the usb to the rear of the console & adjusted volume controls within settings, but
no sign of audio. I doubt the mic would’ve worked anyway, even if we had managed to get an audio signal.

In any case, I find the whole idea of fitting a wired headphone port to the ‘wireless’ controller, a bit of an impractical idea. The point of a wireless controller, is surely to offer freedom of movement. I am really surprised the console doesn’t have any
way to connect a headset - even by way of a USB breakout box. Surely a massive design flaw!

I did read that there were wireless headsets specific to Xbox (not bluetooth), however, along with that several users complaining that these headsets lack in audio quality & comfort. Restricting users from choosing their own higher quality headsets, is yet
    again surely another design flaw!
