    Blu ray problems?

I have posted a number of times regarding very jittery playback of old universal studios blurays. Tried all different settings with no improvement.

I have just turned of the BDLive setting and my playback is now perfect (even at 24hz, rgb limited and 36bit colour depth :-D

    :)

    Blu - ray player

See, and I'm totally the opposite. I don't buy tons of movies anymore, but when I do, I buy the Blu-ray version. Most of the time it comes with a regular dvd anyways. I almost use my PS3 exclusively to play Blu-rays. Nine out of ten times if I buy a game, I buy it for the Xbox. The only time I play the PS3 is for the Sony exclusive titles like Uncharted or GoW.

JoeVxTurbo, you have experienced "jittery" playback? Can you describe it in a bit more detail? Does it look like tiling or is the picture being interrupted or does it in fact "stutter"?

Please do a search on my posts as I have mentioned this a numbered of times in depth and not really had any answers.

I have my xbox one connected direct to brand new panasonic 50VT65 (that works perfectly via ps3)

Tv settings - all additional processing turned off

Xbox setting 1080p, rgb limited, tried various colour depths but always experienced major framerate issues on specific blu rays (appollo 13, dispicable me and 9, these are all universal studio films with the same type of menu system)

I have just turned the BDLive setting off and now these are working perfect so there appears to be an issue with BDLive and older universal studio blu rays

I think also if I move the colour space away from 24bit I also start experiencing lip sync. It I will test this

JoeVxTurbo can you give me the UPC code for some of your discs? We'll try to get them and repro.

    Blu ray problems?

Would be great if you could. Worst offenders are

    Apollo 13 - 5050582888102

    9 - 5050582753981

    Despicable me - 5050582807714

We got Apollo 13 and Despicable Me, and I don't see any jitter. I focused mainly on the universal studios logo, both the one when you first insert the disc, and the 2nd one when you finally start the movie. Every once in a while maybe I see 1 frame drop,
but it's not consistent, and still occurs with BDLive disabled. I can look into that, but that can't be the "very jittery playback" you were complaining about is it? I also tried some of the BDLive trailers and they look ok too.

So, we need to narrow this down a bit

    1. Can you pick a specific obvious scene in either movie that I should watch?
    2. Can your TV display/info bar confirm you are actually in 24Hz? Some TVs show you the refresh rate, and others don't, only showing you what resolution you're in.
    3. Make sure all of the video processing modes on your TV are turned off. It is called many different things, and sometimes has more than one setting. "AutoMotion Plus", "Judder and Blur reduction", etc.
    4. What's the make and model of your TV? Maybe we can buy one to try and reproduce the issue. The old (now fixed) A/V sync jitter issue that occurred for all discs when 24Hz was enabled was obvious on some TVs, but almost invisible on others, depending on
how the TV did it's frame cadence conversion.

Many thanks for your reply on this, I have just got in from work (at 2am) so will post more details in the morning after 10am.

My tv is a brand new panasonic 50" vt65 (plasma)

Xbox one is connected directly to tv. (To take receiver out of the equation)

Apollo 13 in particular was awful. I will try it again when I get up tomorrow and post all of my tv settings

    Blu ray problems?

FWIW, I have a Panasonic 65" VT60, and both Mad Men Season 4 and Star Wars Episode II (the only two Blu-ray discs I have tried on the Xbox One) were almost unwatchable. Every five or ten seconds a frame would drop and people would seemingly teleport across
the room. It was really distracting.

ok, so I have just tried watching Apollo 13 again (5050582888102),

with the settings below (bd live on), it loads fine, shows main universal studios globe with no problems, shows a "xfinity home" advert no problem, then loads the language menu screen, all good to this point. select English and it will eventually load the
    main menu screen.

When pressing play from the main menu screen, even the first few seconds (with the original universal globe spinning) you can see the picture juddering, this continues throughout the film making it unwatchable. even now I am watching kevin bacon chatting
up a young lady with jumpy frames.

so full settings are listed below

    xbox one

    tv resolution - 1080p

    tv connection - hdmi

hdmi audio - stereo uncompressed (although this changes itself to 5.1 surround sometimes?)

    colour depth - 24bits

colour space - tv (rgb limited)

    blue ray

    playback auto - yes

    resume playback - yes

dolby digital - dynamic range control on

    24hz - yes

    enable bd live - yes

    tv Panasonic 50" VT65

    viewing mode - professional 1

    colour temp - warm

    vivid colour - off

    colour remaster - off

    reversal film effect - off

    ambient sensor - off

    noise reduction - off

    mpeg remaster - off

    caption smoother - off

    brilliance enhancer - off

    24p smooth film - off

    game mode - off

    film cadence mode - off

    1080p pure direct - off

    hdmi content - off

    hdmi rgb range - normal

now replaying with BD live turned off, it plays perfectly, globe spins great and kevin Bacon chat smoothly chat up women

mabster - can you try watching them films with bd live turned off?

I believe we have repro'd this. What we see is quite subtle though and at first I didn't notice at all. It must be worse on some TVs than others, just like the original 24Hz issue we fixed in the Feb update. For us though, turning off BDLive has no effect.
I hope it's the same issue Blu ray problems? ;) I'm also looking for someone in Redmond with a Panasonic VT60-65 at home so we can go try it.
