Blu ray "player"

Does anybody else have the absolute hardest time to just watch DVDS on their $500 Xbox one X or is it just me? It's pretty pathetic that the top of the line console cant play simple DVDS and it has me quite frustrated. Help?

    :)

    Blu - ray player

See, and I'm totally the opposite. I don't buy tons of movies anymore, but when I do, I buy the Blu-ray version. Most of the time it comes with a regular dvd anyways. I almost use my PS3 exclusively to play Blu-rays. Nine out of ten times if I buy a game, I buy it for the Xbox. The only time I play the PS3 is for the Sony exclusive titles like Uncharted or GoW.

What sort of issues are you having?

What DVD are you trying to play? What prevents you from playing the DVD? Did you make sure that the DVD matches your region, and isn't imported?

All 200+ DVDs and BluRays in my collection work perfectly fine on my Xbox One X as well as my old original Day One Xbox One.

It comes up with an error code saying the TV input isnt compatible but when you search the error code it just says to restart the console and replace the disc. I did that 4 times and it never played

Well specifically it was thor: the dark world. I've had the issue on and off again the last 2 months. Sometimes the restart works, sometimes it doesn't

Without knowing the exact error code, my guess for the only reason why a TV Input wouldn't be compatible with a DVD would be if the HDCP copy protection handshake fails between console and TV, and the console doesn't get a confirmation from the TV that the
    HDMI channel is now encrypted.

Can you check if the situation improves when you use a different (known working) HDMI cable? While the console may display games and non-movie stuff perfectly well (as it doesn't have to be encrypted), a broken lead on other HDMI data lines might prevent
    the HDCP handshake.

Also check if your TV has a firmware update available. Maybe there is a known issue that prevents your TV from establishing an encrypted HDCP connection to the console reliably.

Is Thor the only movie giving you trouble, or are other movies also throwing errors? Is the movie on DVD or BluRay disc?

I dont remember specifically the other movies that were giving me issues. I do remember we rented a movie on Xbox and we got the HDCP error code. I could give a different cord a try and see if that helps

  10. I have the same issue. Somebody told me that the xbox one has to be online to play disks, even dvds. My xbox one x is online tho. I just get black screen then it reurns to home screen. Great if somebody here could shed some light on how to fix this.

  12. I haven’t tried any actual dvd’s, but I have tried over a dozen UHD discs and about 50 BRD’s. Only issues I had were a couple of hiccups on the larger sized UHD’s. Nothing major so far.

You don't have to be online. If you don't have an Internet connection you can set the console to offline under settings. It will still play discs.

I've not had an issue with any dvd, BluRay or UHD disks.

DVD playback quality is still atrocious.

No I would expect a blu ray player to play DVDs as good as a standalone DVD player. Blu Ray players don't magically improve DVDs. The problem would appear to be that the One blu Ray player doesn't perform well when playing DVDs in comparison to other
    Blu Ray players.

    3d Blu rays
So it's all in one media device but I still need my 3D blu ray player plugged in? Ridiculous
IMHO a stand alone Blu-Ray player is always going to do a better job of playing Blu-Rays than a console. As you already own the 3D Blu-ray player what's the issue?

    3D blu-ray
Sorry if this has been covered before but does anyone know when 3D blu-ray is going to supported as my player is on its way out?
Why not buy a 3D blu-ray player its not like they cost much and the Xbox One uses software for Blu-ray playback unlike proper Blu-ray players.

Blu-ray will not play correctly on Xbox one

Hello Brian J, my name is zahir.

I will try to assist you. Please can you tell me exactly what is happening when you play a blu ray disc?

I can provide you with some basic tips so long.

Set up and install the Blu-ray and DVD player app on Xbox

To watch Blu-ray or DVD movies on your Xbox console, you first need to install the Blu-ray Player app. To install the app, choose one of the following options.

Press the Xbox button to open the guide, select Home, and then select Store.

Select Search and enter Blu-ray in the search bar. Select the Blu-ray Player app when it appears in the list of results.

Select Install to download and install the app.

Insert a Blu-ray or DVD disc into your Xbox.

Select the Blu-ray Player app when it appears.

On the Blu-ray Player app details page, select Install.

Your disc should start playing automatically.

After the app is installed, you can watch Blu-ray or DVD movies by inserting the disc into your Xbox console and selecting Blu-ray Player on the Home screen, or by finding it under My games & apps

    Thank you
