Blu-Ray player issues (all Blu-Ray movies)

Xbox One S 2TB (purchased about a week after release)

    OS Version: 10.0.14393.2152

    Television: Samsung UN40EH5300 SmartTV (1080p)

    Both devices have latest updates.

I'm writing this because all posts I could find were only for 4K playback. My only 4K Blu-Ray movie is The Transformers: The Movie (Steel Book Anniversary Edition). All other movies are standard Blu-Ray or DVD.

The issue(s) started two days ago. The last time I used the Blu-Ray player was for The Transformers sometime around January or early February. I watched the extras and some of the movie with commentary. No problems.

Two days ago (Wednesday, March 15th) I popped in Deadpool for the first time and started watching deleted scenes and other extras. Everything was fine. Started the movie and about 5 minutes in artifacts started appearing (when Deadpool is still in the
taxi). Stopped the movie, quit and restarted the app, and started the movie again. Now it looks like a combination between an NES game with a weak connection to the console and a poorly encoded mpeg that I'm trying to watch while still downloading it with
a dial-up connection. Artifacts all over the screen, stuttering, audio ghosts, etc...

I uninstalled the Blu-Ray player app, did a hard reset, re-installed the app, did another reset, and checked for updates. Issue got worse the more I tried to play a Blu-Ray disc.

Deadpool disk is fine... no scratches and plays fine on other players. I tried The Transformers and artifacts appear during the disc opening animations and during the main menu. Glitches appear during the warnings for the Pacific Rim Blu-Ray. There were
a few times the screen went black... no sound... nothing, but there was no indication that the app had frozen. It just wasn't displaying anything.

Problem does not present itself with DVD's.

I have tested ten Blu-Ray movies so far and the issue persists.

Game discs load fine with no apparent issues.

I have not received any error codes.

Connected the Xbox One to another tv and the issue remains.

The only other issue (if that's what it is) with my console is a noise similar to a power supply UPS cycle check that occurs once or twice a month. There will be a high pitched whine that lasts exactly two seconds and ends with an audible click. It does
not sound like the hard disk.

    Thanks for your help.

    :)

    What's with the Blu-ray issues?

I was having so many issues playing Blu-ray movies that I went and bought a Blu-ray player (not happy by the way) I thought the Xbox one was supposed to eliminate all that and be "the only box needed".

What's the differences between the Xbox One S and the Xbox One

Dont forget 4k blu-ray player. The only other one is selling for 399.99. Xbox one s is a steal for 4k blu-ray. For any movie fans wanting the best quality in there movies.

Blu-Ray player issues (all Blu-Ray movies)

    Hey Doc!

Thanks for the detailed post with all the steps you've already tried. That's incredibly helpful and thorough. The bad news is that it definitely sounds like an issue with your console's Blu-Ray player. I don't see that you've tried a

    factory reset
yet so that's the next step you'll want to try. Go ahead and do the full reset to give your console the best shot at starting fresh. I know that's less than ideal but you've tried everything else and this is going to be the last troubleshooting
    step to try.

If that doesn't work, unfortunately you'll want to consider having your console repaired. That process can be initiated via the
    Online Service Center.

Good luck and feel free to keep us posted!

Thank you for the prompt reply. About a week after the post my disk drive failed completely. It will not read any disks to the point that it won't even launch related apps. I can hear the stepper motor for the laser moving back
and forth after inserting a disk but just sits there making the same noise over and over.

If I send my console to Microsoft for service will they repair my console or will I end up with a refurbished unit? If I have a choice I would rather my console be repaired... unless y'all have a few new ones hidden away. More often than not refurbished
electronics tend to fail on me.

Received preview version of Blu-ray app, but I'm not in the preview program

The same happened with me. 3D blu-ray now works, but it's really choppy, making the movies unwatchable. Will this blu-ray app update combined with the august update help the movies run smoother? It would be nice to be able to put away the 3D blu-ray player
and just use the One for movies.

Well the xbox one include 3D blu ray

@dude, I think they say that cause your not allowed to comment about future hardware the other person may have not known and said it out. but lets all ask our selfs this...a blu-ray player plays blu-rays regular or 3D why would Xbox one will be to only Blu-ray
player on the planet that plays regular blu-ray? regular blu-ray and 3D blu-rays use the same disc fame format just written diffrently on the disc but both can be picked up by the same laser, yes yes, and yes It plays 3D movies and games :)

Blu-ray will not play correctly on Xbox one

Hello Brian J, my name is zahir.

I will try to assist you. Please can you tell me exactly what is happening when you play a blu ray disc?

I can provide you with some basic tips so long.

Set up and install the Blu-ray and DVD player app on Xbox

To watch Blu-ray or DVD movies on your Xbox console, you first need to install the Blu-ray Player app. To install the app, choose one of the following options.

Press the Xbox button to open the guide, select Home, and then select Store.

Select Search and enter Blu-ray in the search bar. Select the Blu-ray Player app when it appears in the list of results.

Select Install to download and install the app.

Insert a Blu-ray or DVD disc into your Xbox.

Select the Blu-ray Player app when it appears.

On the Blu-ray Player app details page, select Install.

Your disc should start playing automatically.

After the app is installed, you can watch Blu-ray or DVD movies by inserting the disc into your Xbox console and selecting Blu-ray Player on the Home screen, or by finding it under My games & apps

    Thank you
