Blu Ray app should allow all DVDs to automatically play in full 16:9 Letterbox image

The Blu Ray app for XBox One is excellent to play both DVDs and Blu Rays, and 4k HDR Blu Ray discs on XBox One X, the latter one I have. The problem that has been for many years and still not done with, is that when playing many old DVDs using the Blu Ray
app on XBox One (or in my case, XBox One X), most old DVDs do not get "stretched" to fill the whole 16:9 screen, but appears in a small 4:3 screen, leaving a wide space of black bars on both sides of the movie.

A DVD is NEVER supposed to be viewed that way. A DVD is supposed to use the whole screen to play the movie. It can either be a FULL 16:9 Letterbox fullscreen or widescreen, but the point is that the image fits the whole screen, so that there's NO black spaces
on both sides of the image. That's the whole point of watching a movie.

No one, absolutely NO ONE wants to watch a movie being split into a small 4:3 image on a 16:9 screen. That's not normal...

However, for now, I found a way to FOOL the Blu Ray app on the XBox One X to play DVDs using the whole screen. On my Samsung SUHD 4k HDR TV, which is a 48JS8505 model from 2015, there's a Zoom-position setting that allows me to stretch the image on both
sides, so that there's no black space on both sides of the image. This setting works for now, as long as I want to watch movies...

When I want to use XBox One X to play games and access the system, I have to set the Zoom to default again, and adjust it again when I want to watch movies...

I hope Microsoft understand that this feature should happen automatically when playing all DVDs through the Blu Ray app on Xbox One.

I have sent this idea on the Feedback forum many times, but nothing has ever been done to this. The time is now...

    :)

    Missing Fullscreen 16:9 DVD-playback on Blu-Ray app

The feature of playing DVD movies in Fullscreen 16:9 rather than in 4:3 Letterbox, has been a missing feature on XBox One since the first XBox One was released. It used to be a feature on XBox 360's DVD player. Now this feature is greatly missed in latest
Blu-Ray app updates on XBox One. PLEASE include the option of playing any DVD movie on 16:9 Fullscreen again. It would be great Blu Ray app should allow all DVDs to automatically play in full 16:9 Letterbox image :)

Fullscreen movie play of DVDs on XBox One Blu-Ray player

Hi there Blu Ray app should allow all DVDs to automatically play in full 16:9 Letterbox image :) As you probably already know, most old DVDs played on XBox One's Blu-Ray app, happens in the 4:3 Letterbox display, which seems to be a limitation of support for playing DVDs on XBox One. When playing Blu-Ray movies on XBox One, all features
are of course supported. When playing many old DVDs, they usually are displayed on a small 4:3 Letterbox screen on the TV. Could the Blu-Ray app for XBox One from 2013 be updated to allow for FULLSCREEN display of old DVDs as well, filling the whole TV and
not the Letterbox display? That would be great if this can be done Blu Ray app should allow all DVDs to automatically play in full 16:9 Letterbox image :) Thanks in advance Blu Ray app should allow all DVDs to automatically play in full 16:9 Letterbox image :)

  6. I agree, but this would depend on the native space of your TV. Some tvs have a auto fill feature, you might to check this with your tv model.

Blu-ray will not play correctly on Xbox one

Hello Brian J, my name is zahir.

I will try to assist you. Please can you tell me exactly what is happening when you play a blu ray disc?

I can provide you with some basic tips so long.

Set up and install the Blu-ray and DVD player app on Xbox

To watch Blu-ray or DVD movies on your Xbox console, you first need to install the Blu-ray Player app. To install the app, choose one of the following options.

Press the Xbox button to open the guide, select Home, and then select Store.

Select Search and enter Blu-ray in the search bar. Select the Blu-ray Player app when it appears in the list of results.

Select Install to download and install the app.

Insert a Blu-ray or DVD disc into your Xbox.

Select the Blu-ray Player app when it appears.

On the Blu-ray Player app details page, select Install.

Your disc should start playing automatically.

After the app is installed, you can watch Blu-ray or DVD movies by inserting the disc into your Xbox console and selecting Blu-ray Player on the Home screen, or by finding it under My games & apps

    Thank you
