Blu-ray App Not Reading Movie Disc

I am pretty frustrated. I just purchased my X-Box One two days ago and I'm just testing out a movie (not a burned disc) and it's not working. I have installed the Blu-ray app and I have tried to perform several hard resets and no luck. It states, "We're
having trouble reading this. Make sure it's a Blu-ray or DVD. If it's a game, launch it from your games & apps instead. (0x91d70000)." This is making me so angry, because a new console shouldn't be having these issues right out of the box! I have tried several
different DVDs and Blu-rays and still the same error. I have viewed a few other complaints on the forum and tried some of the tips that were offered, but didn't see any solutions. Any solution for this situation?

Jan. 7-8 System Update

It at leasts fixes the Blu-ray App. When trying to play disc movies, it won't bring up "we're having problems reading" it. That link cracked me up CodeCat 5. Like +1 ^u^lolXD

xbox one console problems

The Blu-Ray app is only for playing Blu-Ray movies. Games should start automatically when you insert the disc. If not, navigate to my games and apps and start the game from there.

Did you get this sorted. I've just got a new Xbox one and am getting the same message when I insert a blue ray or DVD. Not sure if it would happen with games as I only have downloaded ones as yet.

I am getting the same error using a brand new Lord Of The Rings box-set bought for Xmas. Instead of monthly updates why don't Microsoft fix this issue once and for all. My PS3 plays the discs fine.

I am getting the same issue. I've had the Xbox since September 2014 and I remember reading somewhere that it is a known issue.

Games work fine, its seems to be just DVDs/Blu Rays that are region locked. I bought 2 region free Blue Rays off amazon - Guardians of the Galaxy (awesome) and Transformers: Dark of the moon (not so awesome) and they work fine.

Sounds like the laser in your console's Blu-ray drive has a hardware issue.

To test if your Xbox One X has issues reading discs, try playing a DVD movie disc. If can't read DVD movie discs either then your console has a hardware fault.

Note: It must be a DVD movie disc, not a Blu-ray movie disc.

There are two lasers in the Blu-ray drive, one for reading Blu-ray discs and one for DVD discs. Xbox One games use Blu-ray and the 360 console used a DVD drive.

Can you check if your console can read DVD discs please? To do this just insert a DVD movie disc. If it works, the console will load the Blu-ray Player app (make sure this this downloaded from the Xbox Store).

Note that the disc you try must be a DVD not an Xbox One or a Blu-ray movie disc.

If your console won't start the DVD movie disc then this indicates a fault with your Xbox One Blu-ray drive. These drives contain two lasers, one for DVD's and one for Blu-ray discs. Xbox One disc games are on Blu-ray, Xbox 360 games are DVD's.

It could be that your Xbox One Blu-ray drive has a hardware fault, specifically with the diode it uses to read DVD discs. To test this, try playing a DVD movie in your console. The disc you test must be a DVD movie disc, not a Blu-ray movie disc.

If the DVD doesn't read, but Xbox One and Blu-ray discs read fine then your console has a hardware fault and can no longer read Xbox 360 and DVD discs. There isn't a user fix for this, they only option is get your console repaired. Sorry.

The drive contains separate lasers for the DVD and Blu-ray disc reading. Xbox one titles are on Blu-ray, while the others are on DVD. Please try a Blu-ray movie in the drive and see if it works

Hi,

it won't be a software problem. The reason is because the Xbox One's Blu-Ray drive actually has two laser diodes, one for reading Blu-Ray Xbox One discs and movies and another to read Xbox 360 and DVD movie discs.

Essentially the laser that reads BD discs has failed and it's not something you can repair yourself.
