    Blu Ray and DVD's aren't playing properly


    My xbox will not play DVD's. It won't even read the DVD. It only reads Blu Ray discs which is ironic.

    And literally every blu ray movie it plays, somewhere in the middle of the movie it will glitch out, skip, and then the screen just turns into glitches.

    I've tried everything; Including restarting the console, and Power Cycle (several times), nothing will work. I even tried deleting the app and re installing it several times, getting the same result no matter how brand new the disc is.

    I don't get it. It plays games just fine, but it won't play a movie properly. Ive had this issue for 3 months and nothing has worked.

    Is there an actual fix to this, or is Microsoft just trolling me?

    Oh and also, sometimes when I put a blu ray in; it freezes, and it refuses to let me eject the disc.

    Yes, Xbox One can play both Blu-ray and DVD movies. No HD DVD

    It sounds like there could be an issue with the disc drive if the power cycling and reinstalling of the app didn't work. It could also be dirty or damaged discs causing the issue. To clarify, do the discs have any scratches or smudges on them? Is the issue
    happening with any DVD you play or just a few? Have you been able to try the DVD's in another console or DVD player to see if they played without any issues?

    Yes I have tried and they work perfectly. and my discs are clean, there's not a scratch on it.

    For some reason it'll read the blu rays, but the screen turns into glitchens when the movie is played. And it won't even bother to even try to read DVD's. I've been looking for solutions everywhere but I've never had any luck.

    Honestly I'm at the point at just giving up :-;

    Thanks for the details, it does sound to me like the Blu-Ray drive is having a hardware issue. To clarify on how things work to give you a better idea. There is two different lasers in a Blu-Ray drive. The Red laser reads CD's/DVD's and the Blue laser reads
    a Blu-Ray disc. It's sort of how it got it's name originally. It sounds to me like the Red laser is what's having the issue in this case, so in order to fix the problem the console will need to be serviced. Since we know the discs do work on other devices
    that helps to narrow down the issue.

    You can setup a repair online or through the chat and phone teams. To set up a console repair online use

    Blu-ray app distorts image when playing DVDs but Blu-ray is OK

    I tried a brand new HDMI cable. No change. DVDs are still switched to 1080p and are distorted. I need to make one correction though. A disc I thought was Blu-ray that also showed this problem was actually a DVD - not a Blu-ray., so the symptoms haven't

    No I would expect a blu ray player to play DVDs as good as a standalone DVD player. Blu Ray players don't magically improve DVDs. The problem would appear to be that the One blu Ray player doesn't perform well when playing DVDs in comparison to other
