Blown Hdmi Port. fix or replace?

I think my HDMI port on my 360 is faulty, I've seen other old threads in regards to this problem but most of them mentioned a storm making their ports fry. As far as I know there haven't been any big storms that should have caused this for me. I have a few
questions. How can I check if I'm still under warrenty and roughly how much will a fix cost? would it be cheaper to ebay a new console? I'm in Australia btw so an answer in Aussie Dollars would be prefferable but I'm not to lazy to find a currency converter
if needed.

Sorry to hear you are having problems, also make sure that your xbox is connected directly to your TV. No AMP /Switch in between or anything else. Pull out everything except HDMI and Power and try again.

Change HDMI port on your TV (It might have blown?)

Also try something else on that HDMI port.

It actually sounds like an HDMI cable or HDMI port issue. Try using a new HDMI cable and in a different HDMI port on the tv and see if that resolves the issue. You could also try the component HD cable (if you have it) just to see if that fixes it.

As for the possibility of purchasing a new console, I would recommend not getting one on sites such as Ebay or Amazon. You don't know the history of the console you are purchasing and it could have been banned.

 

Thanks so much for the helpful post. followed the link and it showed me my warranty status! I have one more question if there was an electrical surge that has blown my hdmi port, is it likely to have caused other problems that may not have shown up yet?
I don't mind paying for an xbox service but would like to avoid future problems on the same console that were maybe caused by the same thing then I would have to pay again for another service and am just wondering whether it might not be cheaper to just replace
the whole console? or will an xbox service check into that?

 

A power surge may very well have damaged other parts of the system that have not shown up yet. Servicing the console should replace any and all damage to the console.

Ultimately the decision to repair or replace will rest with you. A replacement will cost a few more dollars but with a new console you will get a full year warranty again whereas a repair will only provide you with a limited time warranty (90 days I believe).
