Blocking ip flooders

If you wanna avoid getting ddosed (IP Flooders), there's a few steps you can take to prevent this.

1. DO NOT join any random parties or reply to messages as people are currently able to snag IP addresses through these methods (Xbox is working on a way to prevent this from happening).

2. If you have a laptop with an Ethernet port or a PC, you can try connecting a VPN to your system (Guide on how to do that can be found

HERE). Now for what VPN to use, I would not recommend free VPNs (Windscribe or ProtonVPN Free for example) as they're notorious for being mediocre at best and limit data usage. Some recommended VPNs are
Surfshark &
ExpressVPN. I would also not recommend using NordVPN just for the fact they're not as good as their competition.

3. Lastly, try to avoid P2P (Pier to Pier) connection based games, example being Destiny 1 & 2. Snagging IPs through P2P based games is unbelievably easy, so it's best to avoid games that use them.

Call your ISP > get a new IP sorted > IP flooder foiled.

Thanks to Mad Cow for bringing it to me and to Zen for pointing out the gap. It was there in the report thing and falls under the personal information but I agree it's probably not clear enough so I've updated the guidelines to reflect that a little better.

While I do agree with the fact that someone shouldn't be named and shamed here, I actually can't find that policy anywhere on here. The closest thing I could find in the
Xbox Forum Guidelines was this entry:

That doesn't actually mention anything about giving someone's gamertag.

Maybe the "name and shame" rule is located elsewhere. If so, maybe you could point it out.

to File a Forum Report" announcement.

Perhaps the forum violations announcement should be updated.

Unfortunately, there are no preventative measures to stop DDoS attacks before they occur.

I don't think sending a message will give away your IP (which is what they need to perform a DDoS), but contacting someone like that will probably just put you on their radar too.
