    Black screen with sound when playing DVD and Blu Rays


    Since the latest Xbox update which updated the blu ray player, all DVDs and blu rays that worked even a few days before play audio and show the highlighted DVD menus options but no text in that menu and no picture when playing of the movie. The DVD menu
    items work and the movie plays - but without any picture. The XBOX play controls overlay (FF, RW, Play etc) all appear on the screen ok. The drive is not making any unusual noises.

    Everything else works fine on the Xbox including verifying a DVD when playing a game that requires it.

    i have tried the following, in order:

    1. reset the Xbox (chose the keep games and apps option)

    2. after resetting, tried the previous blu ray player version

    3. upgraded the blu ray player

    4. powered off at the wall

    5. held the power button down for 10 seconds

    6. changed video frequencies (enabling and disabling all combos of 24, 50hz and 3D)

    7. I have cleared the blu ray cache

    8. I have plugged into different hdmi ports on the tv

    9. Configured in energy saver mode (i don't use instant on)

    Nothing seems to fix it. Any ideas?

    DVD Playback

    I have downloaded the blu ray app for my xbox one s and it works great when playing blu-rays. However, when playing a dvd there is black bars on horizontally and vertically so the actual movie picture is much smaller than with other dvd players. Is there
    a setting or fix from Microsoft that will allow dvds to play correctly. This is very frustrating since I do not have room for an additional dvd player.

    bluray not working

    Hi all,

    I recently bought an xbox one s and tried playing blu rays on it, but all i get is a black screen and sound. I've tried turning the 24hz refresh rate off, reinstalling the blu ray app, changing hdmi ports and turning my console on and off. I have also tried
    multiple different blu rays but still no luck, anyone able to help?

    Just found a solution to the problem.

    My XBox was going through a Marantz home theatre and it appears that that was the problem. Going direct from Xbox to TV shows the DVDs. I'll update the Marantz's firmware and check the cables for DRM compatibility etc.

    DVD playback quality is still atrocious.

    No I would expect a blu ray player to play DVDs as good as a standalone DVD player. Blu Ray players don't magically improve DVDs. The problem would appear to be that the One blu Ray player doesn't perform well when playing DVDs in comparison to other
    Blu Ray players.

    Hi Jasmine, changed to eco and games would play but no dvd's, done a soft factory reset, uninstalled and re-installed blu ray app, it played one dvd then back to same problem screen flashes between disc and black screen then press any button and the screen
    goes black and only exit is to eject dvd and it goes back to home page, games work fine

    System sound and game sound work normally, Blu-ray/DVDs don't work on either sound or just tv. I also tested it on my other 4k tv an no sound for Blu-ray/DVDs.

    No error code, the screen just stays black. Every other dvd or blu-ray that I have works just fine.
