    Black screen upon starting games

I have this problem whenever I try to play arkham city, and the fix was just to sign out, start the game then sign in, so I am thinking the console is trying to update or searching for an update, because it plays fine right now as long as I am not on xbox
    live.

    :)

So far this work around has worked for me: 1. Make sure you are NOT logged into xbox live. 2. Load the game you want to play (on disc or from HD). 3. Ater the game is loaded then log into xbov live. After logged in I have had no problems playing these
3 games: NBA 2K14 (from disc), COD Ghosts (from disc), and Warface (from HD). Haven't tried any apps yet, hope this helps.

  6. Not just slims, i know like 15 different people with this same issue that have arcade/elite models, i also know like 10 of them went and tried replacing there xbox...tried telling them it's useless to get a new one because its a live problem but ey they
didn't listen haha so now they got robbed in a way :/ there still having issues. Very good work microsoft, attempting to repair console = pointless, getting a new hard drive = pointless. I feel bad for the people buying new consoles and still having issues..i
know i almost did, don't feel like wasting money tbh lol. I thought our gold membership was for the use of gaming and entertainment not a barrage of disconnects and re-connects -.- but its better than not being able to game/app at all though! please fix though
    soon [tag:TheStruggleIsReal].

I have dreams of this update being solved and then i wake up to see no hope in these forums :*(

Same black screen problem. I cleared the system cache, tried removing the hard drive, and re-installing my profile. Nothing worked.

So is this fixable? You would think the microsoft techs would get this figured out. Not good business for a company who wants to win the console wars. Was leaning heavily on purchasing a xbox one but will have to rethink that now. Hopefully it is figured
    out soon.

    @Misses Quinzel:

I have the same issue as others -- I'm going through the trouble shooting steps now -- before I knew this was a problem other people were having I tried several things, like backing up my saved games and profiles and reformatting my hard drive -- this did
    not fix the issue.

I've followed steps 1 through 3 so far after the reformat (which did not fix anything yet). But I'm currently re-downloading a previously purchased XBLA game (Assassin's Creed III) to try and perform step 4 (lost all my previously downloaded / installed
games during the format, so will get back to you and let you know if this worked or not).

    Requested Information:

    1.) D: 2.0.16756.0 - K:2.0.16756.0 (BK:2.0.1888.0)

    E:082E-ED04-ABC0-B778 P:082E-ED04-ABC0-B778

    X:A625-EA58-E108-CA8F

    S:6F4F-0CEE-47B3-BC2E

    K:00:00:00:01:00.00.0000.00:000000000000

2.) Not sure on the model #, don't see it printed anywhere.

From the back, the MFR Date is 2006-08-20. (I assume that's August 8th, 2006.)

    Product Id: 77093131301507563406

I can PM the Serial No. or Barcode, etc. if required.

It's a White Xbox 360, with a silver drive plate, no HDMI.

It came with the "20" GB Hard Drive (it's always said it was 13 GB though in the menu). I upgraded to a 250 GB hard drive a long time ago. -- The issue occurs with either hard drive. (I originally thought the 13 GB drive was working, because I tried it
with the Ethernet cable unplugged, but with it plugged in, this happens on either drive).

3.) About 4 or 5 days ago now? Earlier this week. I want to say either Tuesday 7/29/2014, or Wednesday 7/30/2014. It still happens today (8/2/2014) as of ~3:00 PM. (The workaround of unplugging the ethernet cable, launching the game, and then replugging
it, and signing in seems to work with my initial tests, but it's not an acceptable long term solution.)

4.) Haven't tried disc based games yet -- will try eventually -- in the middle of downloading a game now for step 4, and I don't want to derp up the download.

5.) Haven't tried other accounts yet. Currently moved all my accounts to 13 GB drive, and have it unplugged and removed. I re-downloaded my main account onto the 250 GB drive (the only one that's hooked up).

6.) Official Brand External 250 GB Hard Drive -- it snaps into the side of the console where the 13 GB one was. (For transfers I use the official USB transfer cable that plugs into the USB port on the back of the console at one end and the hard drive on
the other, but it's not hooked up right now, or for any part of the testing.)

7.) No, all the internet stuff seems to work fine (I can download, sign-in/out of profiles, see online friends, all the metro panels/icons load, including the annoying ones that talk and play videos and stuff, the video ads seem to play just fine too).

8.) I haven't tried this yet, (I don't even know how to enable auto-sign in -- but it sounds like a cool feature -- how do you enable it?? -- every time I boot up I have to choose my profile manually from an alphabetized list, and my gamertag starts with
a "T" so it's super lame -- on a side note: I also wish that the console would stop prompting me for which storage device to use every time I launch a game, I only have one hard drive hooked up!!). But as stated previously, if I unplug the Ethernet cable
and launch the game first, then re-plug it, and re-sign in, then it works. -- So, somehow, even though Xbox Live seems to work just fine, this seems to be related to it being online or not.

9.) I only have one console.

10.) Not sure what "offline mode" is. Does the info I put in #8 and #3 help?

    11.) Not there yet.

    12.) Not there yet.

13.) Not there yet. But previously, in the black screen, pressing the guide button did not freeze the console, but if I then selected "Xbox Home" from the Guide button menu, it would then freeze and become completely unresponsive, and I would have to hold
the power button to turn it off.

@gameon0311 -- I'm in the same boat, considering buying a One also -- as I understand it, this issue doesn't happen on the One right now, but who knows about the future...

I do know that Sony has had similar outage issues that prevented people from being able to play PS3 games for days at a time in the past as well (a couple years back, it happened like once a month for six months) -- and since I've had my 360, this has only
happened to me once, but I go months at a time without playing it sometimes, so who knows if this has happened in the past or not for Microsoft, no idea.

Also Android had a weird outage a few months ago with the Google App store essentially not working for like 3 or 4 days, then it was fixed for 2 days and then stopped working again for another 3 or 4 days (it was big news) -- both the Sony and Android issues
were caused by hackers / DDoS, etc. -- I wonder if this Xbox Live issue is caused by the same? Not sure -- just feel like with this being such a common thing (attackers trying to bring down your online services network either via DDoS, or injection of malicious/erroneous
data, etc.) that you'd think MSFT would be better prepared for something like this, especially when they're pushing for Consoles to require constant internet connection (the requirement isn't a big deal for me, as long as they can keep up their end up the
bargain... if the problem is on MSFT's end and not mine and it keeps me from being able to play games for a week, then I feel a bit ripped off...)

    @Misses Quinzel:

Well, it seems to be working for me now (for the game I want to play anyway) -- after almost a week of it not working -- so that's pretty good.

    Things to note:

I cleared the cache a lot more than 3 times (I also did a reformat, none of that helped); after the reformat, I restored all profiles and saved games to the console, as described previously. But then, as per your steps, I went ahead and removed all profiles
from the console (again, as described previously, I backed them up to the 13 GB stock hard drive, and then disconnected it), then I cleared the cache several more times in a row (again, a lot more than 3 times, just to be safe).

I re-downloaded my profile, and then the XBLA game I wanted to play (Assassin's Creed III). -- And there was a minor bit of panic at first, as it did sit on the black screen during game load for a lot longer than usual (maybe like 8 or 9 seconds? -- I almost
thought the issue had persisted) -- but then the game eventually loaded (previously, I waited hours at the black screen and no load...).

This was right around 4:30 PM ~ish -- PST (on 8/2/2014).

  12. @Misses Quinzel:

1). What Dashboard OS version is your console on? (Settings> System> Console Settings> System Info) 2.0.16756.0

2). What model Xbox 360 console do you have? (Ex: Original Xbox 360 Model console, Xbox 360 S model console, Xbox 360 E model console, etc.) slim

3). On what date did this behavior start happening? this morning at 6am

4). Is this only happening with downloaded or installed games on the hard drive or does this happen with disc based games as well? happening with downlaod games and disc games

5). Does this happen on all Xbox Live enabled accounts on this console? yes

6). What model hard drive are you using? (Ex: Internal 4GB hard drive on a S model console, 320GB removable hard drive for Xbox S & E model console, etc.) removable hard drive 250GB on xbox360 slim

7). Are the recommendation sections on the dashboard not populated with content and instead filled with a continuous spinning circle? yes

8). Does the workaround of turning off auto sign-in, launching the game first, and then signing in after the game has launched work 100% of the time? no

9). Does the same behavior occur on a different console if you were able to test with your profile? no one have a xbox where i lived

10). Does the same behavior occur while both online and in offline mode? Only nline and offline some times (offline black screen on downaloaded games) when i sign in to xbox live on a disc game maun n black screens till

11). When you get to step 5 in the troubleshooting flow, does the console then loop back into the same behavior? yes

12). When you get to step 9 in the troubleshooting flow, does the console loop back into the same behavior? yes

13). If you do still receive a black screen after all the troubleshooting steps, does the console freeze if you then press the guide button? yes

Same problem here, I have to wonder how many of you have either downloaded the Games With Gold freebie (AirMech) or the latest Borderlands 2 compatibility pack (which has issues of its own).

  14. I have the exact same problem.

I found that this is a workaround for games you play from the disc:

    1. Power up your console

    2. Do not sign in to your profile, but instead open up the disc tray and close it again so it auto-launches the game

    3. Wait for the game to prompt you to log in to your xbox live profile

    4. Sign in

    5. You're now able to play your game

The problem is that I also get the same black screen when firing up an installed/downloaded game. So there's simply no way to play these.

Looks like very serious problem MS, and we want some serious answers, not a wash list of troubleshooting steps that MIGHT work, but probably won't...
