Black Screen on Startup

When I start up my Xbox One, I get a green loading screen, then after 15 seconds or so, it goes black and won't respond to anything other than having the power turned off.

I've spent hours on the phone with xbox support, I've tried power cycling, and resetting the internet for my whole house. I've tried installing the offline system update by memory stick. And none of it worked. The only thing I haven't tried is factory resetting
my console, which I'd prefer to avoid doing.

So I looked on the internet, and there are literally hundreds of people with the same problem, all of them saying the same thing, this problem occurs, they spend many hours going through the song and dance I did, none of it works, including the factory reset,
and they have to send it off to be repaired, at great cost to them, because they're out of warranty. And it comes back fixed.

So microsoft know how to fix the problem, so why are the people on the phone taking everyone through the same few steps which don't work? surely they know they don't work? How do they fix it? What can I do to fix my xbox?

I thought the PS4 startup was just a white "PS4" on a black screen?

How long are you leaving it on the black screen?

During a cold start you will get the green splash, then black screen which can last a number of minutes looking like it isn't doing anything then it will load up into the Dashboard.

 

10-15 minutes, I can try it for longer if you think that will help?

It seems that that's probably a hardware error, i suggest just sending it in to be repaired, hopefully your Xbox is still in warranty!

Before you send it off, have you disconnected the Power Brick from the Xbox One? My suggestion is to unplug the Power Brick from the One, leave it disconnected for a couple minutes, then plug it back in and turn on the One. That should work. If not, ship
it to Microsoft, but try that before sending it to be fixed.

 

Ok, I've now tried all of those things, today it hasn't been going to the black screen, just staying on the green loading screen. I left it for hours, until the xbox turned itself off, I also tried to install the update again, and use the factory reset,
neither of which were accepted on the memory stick by the console.

I highly doubt my xbox is still in warranty, I bought it shortly after it came out.

What next?

When did it stop working? Was it in a update, or did it just stop working randomly? If it was in a update, maybe you could reverse it?

I hadn't played in over a month, as I came back from uni and didn't unpack it. Finally unpacked it and started to download the witcher 3. It took like 90 minutes to do 6% of the download, so I turned it off and moved it to a tv which is much closer to the
router to try and speed the download up, when I plugged it in to the new tv and turned it on it stopped working. Now it doesn't work on any of the 3 tvs we have in the house at the moment...

I just want to be clear here. What happened when you tried the Power Brick?

 

No difference unfortunately. Tried unplugging it, leaving it for 10 mins, then did the same but left it disconnected for a few hours. Neither made any difference, it still won't start or accept anything on a memory stick

 

Hmm, do other consoles/PCs display correctly with that HDMI Cable, on the same port, on the same TV?
