    Black Screen of Death XBOX One but it has started up


    I am running Xbox One with fast start. It has just started with a black screen. When starting it shows the Xbox boot screen, goes black, pops up my user id picture, then goes black. The only thing that seems to work in this state is holding down the Xbox button and I get the options to turn off the console, controller or restart. These options work when selected. If I exit this by pressing the Xbox button again it goes black. No other button combinations or yelling at it seems to work. I also started in VGA mode. Results were the same, only Xbox button held for long press worked.

    There's no CD in it, I've disconnected the external USB HDD and fully pulled the power out for a good 20 minutes a couple of times.

    Any other tips before I nuke it and do a full reset?

    Bind Eject Xbox One

    Turn off the console and unplug the power cord to ensure that the console is completely turned off.

    Wait 30 seconds and plug the power cord back in.

    Hold down the BIND (located at the bottom front of the console) and EJECT (located on the front of the console) and press the Xbox button on the console.

    Continue by pressing the BIND and EJECT buttons for 10 to 15 seconds.

    Listen to the two tones of "activation", with a few seconds of difference between them.

    Release the BIND and EJECT buttons after the second activation tone.

    If your console is the Xbox One S All-Digital Edition, it doesn't have the EJECT button. You can turn on Xbox Startup Troubleshooting on this console by keeping only the BIND button and then pressing the Xbox button.

    When you're on the recovery screen, choose the "Reset keeping games and Apps" option.

    This worked for me, many thanks for the advice.

    @Shawn - I had to do a google image search to identify the Bind button, that's important. So I held Bind (a small inset button on the left hand side of the Xbox One black) and the Eject button. Then while holding them I pushed the power and let it go but did not let go of the Bind and Eject for about 15 seconds. Then a few seconds after I let go the recovery screen came on.

    Also I did see something on my screen as described with the initial problem so I knew my HDMI etc. was working. If you see nothing at all then you may have a more fundamental problem. You can try starting with just Eject and Power and it should start in VGA mode. Also change HDMI cable if you can and also plug something else into the same HDMI cable to verify the TV.

    I am having the same problems as well and it is just after happening yesterday.

    Have been getting major framerate drops lately in games and now it does exactly the same thing.

    Love the xbox but have had nothing but hardware issues with it and its controllers.
