Black screen issue with video playback through Denon S500BT

Hello,

I'm suddenly experiencing an issue with all video playback on my Xbox One through my Denon receiver. This began with trying to watch TV from my Dish Hopper through the Xbox One TV app and it became apparent no video playback works (HBO Go, TV app, etc).


Hard booting does not restore functionality. Many times I will need to hard boot to restore even seeing the Home Screen on my Xbox One.

When my receiver is bypassed everything works correctly. When I use nothing but the HDMI passthrough on my receiver (while it's turned off) it works fine.

Could this possibly be another HDCP issue? Any help or suggestions would be appreciated. Really scratching my head on this one. I'm currently using what is considered a Basic Setup with an AV receiver (Dish Hopper to XB1> Denon S500BT> Samsung
UN65H6350AFXZA).

Black Panther 4K unplayable

Trying to play Black Panther on the Blu-Ray app and just get a black screen, then get the error about my receiver being unable to decode the audio (0x91d7000e). Had my XBox set to Atmos playback. Followed the directions to have the Xbox decode the audio,
but when I can finally play the movie, the audio has a noticable scratchiness to it which makes it unwatchable to me. Switch my XBox settings to DTS playback and reenable my receiver decoding and I get the same black screen issue. My receiver, a Denon AVR-X2300W
can playback and decode both Atmos and DTS and I have no issues with any other Blu-ray discs regardless of the audio choice made.

What gives, Microsoft?

 

HDCP Handshake Issues - Black Screen in Bluray and Xbox Video apps

At some point my Xbox One started having issue with black screen whenever a video is played using Xbox Video app. Same issue playing bluray disks. The screen turns black and console does not react to any input on the controller, has to be power cycled. Other
apps (Youtube) or games like Deadrising 3 work fine.

Xbox One is connected to Onkyo TS-XR607 receiver using the HDMI cable that came with the console, and from there to Toshiba Regza TV.

I also have Xbox 360, PS4 and PS3, and none of them have issues with video playback or Bluray disk playback.

Apparently there is an HDCP handshake issue that causes this. Whenever the video playback is starting, the receiver is looking for signal but fails to detect it. I am sure that there is nothing wrong with the receiver as other consoles have no issue with
DRMed video.

Of course I can try running the HDMI cable directly to the TV, but I'd like to get this working again through the receiver. It used to work fine before, it seems that a recent update to the console changed that.

What can I try to troubleshoot this handshake issue?
