    Black Ops 2 Won’t Work on My Xbox 360 (Multiple Discs Tried)


    I've been having this issue for a while now. With Black Ops 2 being revived recently, I wanted to hop back on for nostalgia’s sake. I couldn’t find my original BO2 disc, so I ordered a secondhand copy from a reputable vendor. They claimed it was cleaned and tested, yet it wouldn’t work on my Xbox 360.

    I have Xbox Live Gold, a solid internet connection, and my console has played this game in the past. However, when I insert the disc, instead of displaying the game’s title and cover art, I only see the default Xbox disc icon with the text "Play Game." When I launch it, the screen fades to black, I get disconnected from Xbox Live, and then I’m kicked back to the dashboard with no explanation.

    Here’s what I’ve tried so far:

    • Deleting all my old Black Ops 2 game files
    • Factory resetting my console
    • Testing it on a fresh Xbox account
    • Testing the disc on a friend's console (also didn’t work)
    • Getting a replacement copy from the vendor (same issue)
    The vendor was apologetic and even sent photos showing the game working on his console. Despite this, the second replacement disc still won’t work on my Xbox. My console runs Modern Warfare 2 and Skate 3 (the only other disc games I own) without any problems, so I don’t understand why BO2 won’t launch.

    I've heard that a picky disc drive could be an early sign of failure, but I want to be sure before I go spending EVEN MORE MONEY on this. Could this be a console issue, or is there something else I might be missing?

    Any help would be appreciated.

    Black Ops 1

    If you have the games on xbox 360 disc they work like regular xbox one discs. I have black ops 2 on disc and thats how im able to play it

    Still having problems with my black ops 3 disc

    I tried putting in my Black Ops game disc into my Xbox One and it worked. I would try hard resetting your Xbox One to fix that problem.If you're trying to put a Xbox 360 version of Black Ops 3 into your Xbox One, it will not go through. The Xbox 360 Version
    of Black Ops 3 is not compatible with the Xbox One. Since the second DLC for Black Ops 3 was released, They released the gold edition of Black Ops 3, which basically includes the game, Nuke-town, and the first DLC. You get all of that content for the same
    price as the base game ($59.99). If hard resetting your Xbox One didn't work for you, then I really don't know what to say. Try putting other game discs into your Xbox One and see if they work. If other games don't work, then the disc drive in your Xbox One
    might not be working right. I hope this solved your problem.

    BLACK OPS II - disc unrecognized

    I tried replacing the disc drive and it didn't work. The disc drive I replaced it with DID run Black Ops 2 in its old Xbox. This is clearly a software issue. The replacement drive was from a 09 Elite, the one I put it into (The original non-working with
    Black Ops) was a 09 White Arcade.

    Hey there guys! I understand you're having trouble playing Black Ops 2 on your consoles. Do you get disc read issues with all your games, or just some? If this only seems to happen with Black Ops 2, please try getting a replacement disc from the retailer
    and try it again.

    It's not my Xbox. All my other games work perfectly fine. I KNOW it's my Black Ops 2 disc.
