    Every time I try to play Call of duty: Black ops 2 local splitscreen zombies or multiplayer, I get errors saying "can't sign in to xbox live. Please use a profile with a valid membership" despite me having xbox live gold and PLAYING LOCAL/offline.

    if you mean split screen on line multi player

    you can only do that with black ops --- modern warfare 3 and black ops 2

    you can not split screen with cod 4

    Are all 3 of you trying to play on the same xbox? Black ops 4 can only split screen with 2 people. It cannot split to 3 or to 4. That might be your issue.
